Yes it is. I have never seen a summer so dead in my yachting years here in Barbados. The only vessel that is at the slips right now is a Sports Fisher which seems to be a resident of the Marina.
The second major yacht for the summer sailed into the marina today, however, i can't seem to indentify her from this close to the webcam. If anyone can, you are welcomed to give input.
Yes Lars, thanks for the photo but this evening I took it upon my self to go down to the marina and find out. Her name is m/y Monaco and she is a Feadship about 125 feet long. This is the first time that I am seeing her. She had a few guests aboard. Here are some pics I took this evening:
Just came on and took a look at the webcam and saw this sail yacht at slip 1 -where Monaco was-. First I thought Destination Fox Harb'r but it doesn't look like her. Anyone want to take a guess? If she stays long enough I will have to go down to the marina and take pics.
Destination Fox Harbor in in the Pacific Northwest, Atlanta is in Newport and Georgia in in Monaco. Looks like you will be taking a trip to the marina. Nice night for trip down,
OK, so now those are ruled out, I guess I will have to take a trip up North. I'm a bit busy now so I can't do it for a couple days, that's why I said if she is here for a while i'll pics.
I think I have figured out what the sail vessel is. I think she is the s/y Rogue. A pretty regular visitor to the marina, she was here numerous times last year.
An update The Rogue has left the marina, no doubt trying to get out before the Dean gets here, also not yacht related but the DDG 57 USS Mitscher just departed the Barbados Port Authority- she is part of the drug interdiction 'net' in operation in the Caribbean region.
Different webcam shots prior to Dean Here are some other shots from the other webcams in the marina, I do not think I ever posted views from those. These cams view the inner parts of the marina, the very sheltered areas surrounded by the condos and so forth. From Webcam 1 From Webcam 2 From Webcam 3, you can see some local fishing vessels taking shelter
Good Morning, we here in Barbados have escaped relatively well from the 'wrath' of Hurricane Dean. However as you would expect the seas are swelling currently near 12 feet. The system has passed Barbados now and is presently centered near St. Lucia. Here is a look slightly blurry view from webcam 3 at the conditions at about 05:30
And what do you know, the s/y Rogue decided to come back, she is presently trying to berth in the not ideal conditions. First she was trying to berth stern in but that did not work, now she has turned around and gone in bow first at slip 3.
Now that Den has advanced to near 70 W, conditions here in Barbados are back to normal in terms of the weather. Here is a nice Sunny, and Breezy early afternoon at Port St. Charles Marina. And it seems that the Rogue has had a name change that I did not know about, she is now called the Zanzibar?
The Princess 23 that we saw a month and a half or so ago is back and the Zanzibar (ex Rogue) is still in at slip 1.
Here is another view from the webcam 3. The camera has azimuthed so far around that it shows you another location that is not normally seen. Nice area!
Well it seems as if this will be the dullest Summer here. The yacht shows have stollen the yachts. So untill they are over and the yachts start to migrate to this part of the world... we are stuck with nothing. For now here is a wider shot to the one above of the outside of the marina (more like behind)
