Brunick, Are you referring to Jo's bow down attitude and the crew hanging at the aft deck? Jo's a pretty boat, but does anyone have info on her running angle. Those look like only 4' to 6' seas.
Some more pics, this time taken by my dad from his window. ASTRALIUM - 15/04/08 DILBAR - 14/04/08 MIDLANDIA - 04/04/08 Daniel
Thanks for the pic of Dilbar. I think she is a beautiful yacht! That's interesting with the sequence of pics of JO. She appeared to be almost drinking the water in 5 foot rip swells.
i think both - the crew is maybe trained to state of sea like that but i wouldn't try to meet on the aft deck i've been on a 100m ferry on the english channel at 8-9bft with waves up to 3m - let's say that was enough for me to realize, that i'm not made for the big seas
Dan, Since I live in the middle of Texas, USA I don't see to many mega yachts; thank you for the photos. May I ask you; about how far away were you from the JO when she was crossing? Those are exciting photos I cannot imagine what it would be like to cruise through such an historical location. Looking forward to seeing more. Woody
Thanks Woody, the photos of JO were taken about 300m to 500m from the shore. They usually come in even closer to shore but nowadays have to open into the Strait of Gibraltar becuase of a sunken bulk carrier in the immediate area. Cargo ship KOCHNEV in Gibraltar today with a couple of nice looking yachts & launches on deck. Daniel
Woody, here the yacht JO passing the sunken wreck of the bulk carrier New Flame east off Gibraltar. Daniel
She went down on the 12th of August 2007 after colliding with an oil tanker. You can see a clip of her sinking at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHgjGAFz3Q4.
Thats correct, she collided on the 12th August last year with the tanker Torm Gertrude. Fortunately the bulk carrier was the worst affected. She has been there ever since sinking further in until she has come to rest as in the photo above. There is a salvage operation going on to cut her up and take her away but weather conditions have impeded the operatio many times over the last year. Here are some more of my pics (and others) following the ships' development since the day of the sinking (its a spanish ships forum so the wording will be in spanish). http://www.fotosdebarcos.com/viewtopic.php?t=11494 Daniel
Dan Amazing photos you took on FotosdeBarcos. The ones taken from the air and those from the seaward side were terrific. Thanks for sharing them . It is most appreciated. Regards Ken
