Perhaps a re-read of the link in the Soot Thread and a Google for Garcon for Ace will alter your opinion. Hug Filtersystems AG - nauticlean FOR SHIPS
Old Phart, I am not saying it's impossible. If you take their space into account from the beginning, it is very well possible (a retrofit may be more complicated, unless you can replace the dry dampers with soot filters). If you know of a (fast) yacht which has them actually installed on their main engines, I'd be interested to hear. The thread you point to only discusses generator exhausts (usually up to 250 kW on yachts). The nearest vessel to a yacht I know of which has it on their main engine exhausts (2 x 900 kW) is Nieuwe Maze from the Port of Rotterdam. They actually had them installed at a refit a couple of years ago. What I am saying is that I haven't yet seen any applied to the main engine exhausts on any fast yacht. But still the amount of soot on Garcon's topsides is rarely seen. So I am just pointing out that a soot filter isn't the only answer to the problem. Most yachts deal with it by sending the soot underwater, which in spite of better looks, is not better for the environment. I haven't seen anything on Ace's exhaust system, so it's all speculation on my part, but the big holes in the topsides (where there usually would only be a smaller bypass) seem to be the main exhaust outlets to me (which I know for a fact is the case on the commercial Axe bow vessels).
Hi, From info I have Lurssen use the Hugg system on gensets and to a certain power setting on mains approx 30% from memory. The soot on Garçon could well be overloaded engines or a few goossed injectors, as it appears on both sides maybe more than a few. 3512C in that power configuration is normally a very clean burner

The photos were taken the same day but like you said, they must have cleaned the soot off whilst she was fuelling alongside....the last three photos of the set are of when she was leaving and the clean hull around the exhausts can be clearly seen. Daniel
