    Ethereal's Tender Davits ?

    Re: Post 277 pictures

Anyone know how the tender is launched and recovered from the top of the tender davits / aft flag holder?

Do the davits bow down and the arms extend, while rotating the cradle to keep the tender horizontal?

Great pictures, really enjoy the detail!

Any chance it is raised and lowered with the boom on the aft mast? It seems to be positioned perfectly. There seems to be additional hardware on the bottom end of the aft boom that doesn't appear to be on the forward boom.

That is the only way I see it to be offloaded and loaded through the boom on the mizzen mast.

It is quite common for sailing yachts to use sail booms to shift heavy objects. On a yacht of that size, the physical load imposed on mast, boom and rigging under full sail and in a good wind, will be far greater than the weight of that relatively small tender.

You may be right. I found an excellent picture of the boom over the tender at www.charterworld.com/index.html?sub=yacht-charter&charter=syethereal-1685 that gives a better perspective to the ability to effect the lift. However the limiting factor with the aft boom is that it is trapped between the split backstays, so its got to be a tough exercise to swing the boom port or starboard to its limit, and then spin the tender just enough to clear the transom.

I would think that the hydraulic boom vang would prevent the boom from being used like a derrick arm to lift the tender up between the split backstays and rotate to lower and launch over the starboard or port side.

    Hi,

Have a look at the top RH Photo in Post No 277, the fitting that can be seen on the end of the black section of the Port Backstay of the Mizzen would lead me to believe that the backstays are runnng backstays, these will be able to be removed to allow the tender and boom to be swung to either side as required.

They are mounted in such a way as to allow the boom to be let out when sailing, if the stays didn't move it would severely limit the angle of sailing of the yacht to put it mildly.

Nice collection of pics there Josaver. I like the shade systems on "Sycara V" esp the curved poles on the aft sundeck.

For some reason, the styling of the letters of 'Aurora' on this vessel still looks like the styling of them when she was "Phoenix".

Nice pictures! I've been waiting for this vessel to be finished as I did the 3D renders and some of the interior detail drawings.

Looks great! Is there any chance of you emailing me the originals so I can add some to my portfolio?:)

    Cheers,
    Sando
