No, not sailing yachts. Two pretty big and well known motoryachts and their names have no connection to each other.
Let me TRY Hi Lars, If I'm right in recognizing the bird as a kingfisher, then the tail shown in your trivia may be that of the BBJ of one of my Indian friends (no names here). If this is all correct the yachts then are: Indian Princess Kalizma. How far off am I?
TRY, you are absolutely right! Our Indian friend with Kingfisher Beer and now also an airline had already the 100 year old 50 m Kalizma when he purchased the now 20 year old 55 m Southern Cross III and renamed her Indian Princess. Kalizma is well known since she was bought by Richard Burton and Liz Taylor in 1967 and the name comes from Burtons kids, Kate, Liza and Maria. You are next!
One for the night (that means for this part of the world) We stay in India, where another flamboyant tycoon had a yacht built locally. About 50 meters long, but completely built in wood. Yes sir! Question: give me the yard where his yacht was built. Good luck, good night!
Difficult question....the only Indian tycoons I know are the Tata's and the Mittal's : BTW didn't he look seriously at buying Rising Sun ? Rumours go! So,TRY, give us a hint, alstublieft
A hint First of all, there's lots of Indians owning yachts, but discreetly. There's thousands of them that could actually afford one, and more and more will do so in the years to come. Life style is changing fast and enjoying life becomes acceptable. Now for the hint: The yard is located in Gujarat. Sorry for this somewhat off-the-beaten-track trivia. I promise to be more classical the next time!
Another hint Otherwise we risk to get stuck here, to lose momentum and interest! The owner's initials are G.S. (no name, ok?) He's the chairman of Raymond's textile group (amongst others)
I found your friend Gautam, I found out he is enjoying life, that he owns a boat (that is ; I found a 47 foot boat owned by him) but no 50 meter wooden boat, so....I give up...someone else which more luck googling around or calling indian friends ???
What to do now? This question goes to Carl: What do we do in this case. My question seems way out of track. Can I just give the answer and put another trivia to get the dynamics going again??
Sorry guys! I went a bit too far out of the way with this! Soooooooooorry! And the answer is: Wadia Boat Builders - Gujarat
I'm next again An easy one this time: With all the recent publicity around shadow yachts, a glorious idea that will be further developed in the near future, I'm sure of that, My question is: Who invented the concept of the "shadow yacht"? I'm not after the name of the first ever shadow yacht (launched 1994, 12 years ago!) That would be too easy for you! I want you to give me a name. A hint: the man was at that time captain of the main yacht (at launch time 5th in length worldwide).
Golden Odyssey's Golden Shadow would be my guess... I'm not versed enough to know the Cpt.'s name though.
No sorry's needed; you only make me curious about this 50m wooden boat. So, forgive me my in-between-question, but can you give details, please ??
To Kalmeran First I reply to your question: GS had indeed a 50M yacht built at Wadia Boat Builders of Gujarat. The decision was based on financial considerations. The result was and is fine for Mumbai harbour. I had somephotographs of the thing, I will look them up and post them. There's no hint of the reference on Wadia's site. That's why it was a very difficult trivia.
Now for Kevin and the thread Of course you're right with the names of the yachts. So far, so good. Now find the name of the man, way ahead of his time, who started it all, and convinced his owner into such a project.
You're on Kalmeran, you found it quickly! Great guy Peter, retired commodore now of the world's 256th fleet! The yachtforum's community awaits your question. Goede avond, tot morgen!
