Obviously he feels you don't just ignore moderators, you then attack them and repeat what they said not to do, only more so.

Ok, it was in deep water at some time. That's the problem with trying to figure it out from the video. We don't have the rest of the story, the part before the video started.
  3. Was reported the boat ran out of fuel.

Probably the same reason the anchor was not deployed.

What we do have shows him cruising just past the surf line where you're likely to encounter swimmers and no time to deploy an anchor should your engines fail. Some people have to learn the hard way. Just glad he destroyed his yacht and bank account instead of a life or limb.

Yes, if no one was injured then it was a lucky day. Probably had to be a combination of a lot of unwise decisions and equipment failure. We've actually had drills on our boats to see how quickly we could get securely anchored in the event of engine failure. Also how much we could get out of the thrusters. It was part of our training process and seeing something like this it makes a lot of sense. Had some of those "Engines both fail right here, do what you would do."

Good thing to practice. Now this will be telling. Assuming you're in 10' of water (safe for that boat), and you'll want at least a 7:1 scope since you're being pushed towards shore (70' of line / chain out), how far do you think that boat would travel towards the surf line by the time you realized the problem and got it deployed? Now take another look at the start of that video. He was foolish being where he was. Add to that him being low on fuel (if that was in fact the cause of the engine failure), and he earned what happened.

Not enough information to determine the answer. It depends on how much wind and current is pushing the boat and in what direction. Size of the boat makes a big difference also. Most 30' center consoles, you can have the anchor out and set in about 5-10 boat lengths. 100' yacht with a slow windlass, different story. Generally in a 40-70' yacht, I stay at least a mile off of the beach.

Evidently there was plenty enough info for you to come up with a smart answer. And evidently these guys weren't too smart....on a number of fronts. Sometimes people get exactly what they deserve. They evidently didn't care if they might be running over swimmers that close to shore. Maybe losing a bunch of money will teach him some responsibility.

Doubt that seriously. In fact, they probably came up with the reasons quickly that it wasn't their fault.
