Nothing at all wrong with a Newcastle, but I wonder what the owner's objections were to his Huckins? Personally I would KILL for a Huckins, but that's just me.
$1,000.00 A Foot Yes, and I also remember when yachts cost a $1,000.00 a foot!!! And even then if you had to ask the price you could not afford it!
This thread is aging gracefully. Wish the same could be said for some of the boats shown in it! Carl, no more webcam?
Built By Knight and Carver for the owner of Circus Circus Hotels and Casinos Mr. William Gordon Bennett Owned hence the name /
I accumulated another 100 or so shots since I last posted, but the webcam was too much like work and I'm already 24/7 with YF. At some point, I should probably process the remaining pics and post. After 3.5 years in a 425 sq. ft. apartment that was no larger than my college dorm room, the walls were closing in and it was time to go. Last month, I traded the apartment with a million dollar intracoastal view for a house on a canal, where I might see a canoe once a week. For the first time in years, all of my stuff is one place and I have a garage again. Finally, a place to tinker! I have no quorums with admitting I'm a vocational student at heart. But, I haven't had a chance to enjoy it. Two weeks ago, a defense contract landed on my desk and I had to take it. Because of this, there won't be any new reviews for the next few weeks. Adding to the new review delay, I'm heading to the Netherlands in June. HISWA has invited me to tour the Dutch yards. I'm hoping to return home and get back to work on YF in July. And tinker in the garage.
That is Superb Carl, I was wondering when we (YF.com) would have a representative there one of the times....
I agree! Thanks for taking the time to post all the pictures. I enjoyed going through the whole thread over the last two nights.
I finally had a scan of this thread and noted the very first post of Carl's asked for information of the vessel he shot. I believe she is Northern Light, a 66' Chuck Paine design owned by a former NYYC commodore so probably would be quite familiar with active members of that club. They would see her at the club's activities at Newport, RI no doubt. Their website has a panoramic viewing scene taken from its upper deck I recalled, so I looked again and it's traced below: 360VR Studio Pretty boat that I really liked when I saw it when undergoing commissioning trials.
Five years later and we finally get some intel on that boat! Thank you Blair!! For some reason, I've often wondered about it. I liked the design, but it was foreign to me. Not too many boats can pass me w/o my feeble old brain conjuring up a yard, builder or designer... but that one stumped me for years. Case closed!
Time to give this long-lived thread another bump. One thing you don't see often is the elusive yacht flocking at night. This flock was nestled in at a Palm Beach marina for the evening, with the December flocking moon rising in the east.
That is a BEAUTIFUL PIC and an amazing job at photography, do you mind e-mailing it to me in it's origional size if I PM you with my e-mail address?
I was going back thru a few of these postings and ran across this quote...what a great descriptive passage
Brian, Capt J, others, Thanks for the comments on the photo. I've had several PM's from YF'ers to get a copy. Now, like a magician that nevers tells a secret, I don't normally hand out the money-shots, but I'll see what I can do. It has made its way to my favorites list and soon to be on my web site. Capt J, I'll send you a PM.
Thought I'd give this a bump. I used to enjoy checking out the candid pics. If anyone has any good ones of late, would you mind posting? I'm sure I'm not the only one reminiscing...
