Actually the picture is WRONG. The red dot is in fact Rybovich, However, Sailfish Marina is actually north of the inlet and not shown in the photograph or google earth picture
Rybocich When I was there, North and West of the inlet there was a major yard...could it have been Viking ??
But the picture is not from Sailfish Marina- you cannot see the port cranes from Sailfish marina- nor can you see the PP stacks as they are shown- the pic is from the Sailfish Club of Florida- on Palm Beach- thus the question- why are they on the wrong side if they are going back to Rybo? Yep Viking is there- but they were not headed to Viking.
Rybovich..Viking Well, at least i just got the name wrong ..lol...I had phoned Rybo for dock charges and that what sort of stuck in my mind...sorry to get off the subject.
This is incorrect The M/Y Mi Sueno DID NOT smoke a main engine. The captain was uncomfortable with the wind and current conditions and requested a tow back to the dock through the tight waterways. Mi Sueno is currently back on its travels.
That sounds more like it. It's being assisted on the wrong side for Rybo- probably back to a marina on the Palm Beach side.
The preferred channel for big boats is going along the east side of Lake Worth along the Palm Beach side passing the Sailfish Club. There is in fact alot more water using this route than the ICW, and there is a very deep pocket that runs across the lake right in front of Rybovich, on the chart it is between the two spoil areas. I used to do many lunch cruises in Palm Beach and got to know this route really well, it was always deeper than the ICW, especially up near the port, where it shoals in really bad.
That is how all the larger vessel enter Rybo, from the east side of the ICW then they cut straight across heading west to enter the the facility. It is the deepest water way in.
Learn new routes everyday... .. well not everyday, but this is good to know. Is this route marked? It's faintly seen on the google earth pic.
interesting... the water on the east of teh ICW look pretty skinny, with some 7' sounding... the ICW while not very wide is pretty deep south of Peanut (at least 10' MLW). it's around the back side of Peanut that you find some 9' sounding in the channel
From the charts, I would not think to take that east of ICW route in a 9 or 10 ft draft vessel. The first time I saw this route being taken, I thought the Captain was making a mistake.
1-Charts lie. 2-My Bad. Scuttlebutt last week was that they had smoked an engine. Have know heard that it was oil cooler problems. "Cattech" knows what happened, but he is not saying, for obvious reasons. They were towed out of the marina and set free in the "Lake" yesterday. 3-The east channel is plenty deep, but Captains get freaked out driving the big iron through there. I have stood next to more than one Captain coaching them to the yard from the port, and I'm just an engineer (chuckle)
