I thought they could launch...... LCACs and AMTRACs from the stern. I guess I'm thinking of a much bigger ship. If they can really attain 45 knots, that's very impressive!
Aircraft carriers need 60 knots of wind in order to launch aircraft. If there is no wind, they are capable of creating 60 knots of wind over the deck

Nordhavns, eat your hearts out! 165' of steel-hulled, ocean-going competence! Be still, my heart! Love it!
Another year of shipping begins next week March 22/13. They started filling the canal three days ago and she be completed this Saturday. The ship on the left is Canadian Icebreaker Amundsen in drydock for a six million refit. Lake Erie is still 50% ice.
Made my first trip down the Welland Canal today on a new 43' GB Eastbay. The owner is moving his boat from Harbor Springs to Main for the summer. He had two buddies who had never done the trip before so he thought he would take them to Mackinac Island but they were not opened yet, then thought he would show them the North Channel Georgian Bay but it was full of ice. Lake Huron water temp. was 32.6 F and air temp. 33-34 F. Had a quick 5 hour trip down the Welland Canal today. They are heading out the seaway to sea instead of going down the Erie Canal as it was on his bucket list and is 1200 miles longer.
A few pictures of my trip down the Welland Canal Thursday on Aqua Azul 98' X 34' heading to New York City from Chicago.
Was up bound in canal today following Perserverance II . In lock three they did a slow fill causing her to come of the east wall over to the west wall, she was only about five feet from west wall with no fenders on that side, then she came back to the east wall causing light damage.
Trip up canal Monday new 48' Hinkley and a new fire boat made in Kingston Ontario by Metal Craft Marine, she will do 45 knots, also a new Viking.
New Palmer Johnson PJ Hull 264 is now in Lower Lake Huron doing 16.5 knots. That will put her in the Welland Canal around Friday. AIS shows it as PJ Hull 264 65M X 10 M destination St. Johns New Fundland. When she arrives Welland Canal she will require sea way inspection will try and get pictures.
New Palmer Johnson (Lady M) New Palmer Johnson Lady M down bound Welland Canal today. AIS shows 65 M X 10 M 213.25' X 32.8' PJ Hull 264 Destination St. John Newfoundland. The first picture is Lady M up bound the Welland canal on June 11/10 on the deck of M/V Alexia in three pieces, now today she is down bound in one piece.
I was thinking how aggressive the aft section looked, then I saw the pic with the cat on the bow. I must say it certainly fits. I now regret not going down to look at her when she passed.
The Palmer Johnson looks weird. It looks like they glued 2 totally different boats together midships. The aft half looks sleek like their earlier ones which should have a nice pointy bow, but the bow looks sort of like an axe bow and looks totally different......Thats just my opinion though
Thanks for the pics rodger! that palmer look awesome. keep them coming(pics) gonna miss the lakes this year, and you helping us through the locks but will be seeing the pacific north west for a nice change this summer.
Hmm, that Cat on the bow surely puts the Bulldog on the hood of a Mack to shame. Great looking boat to be coming out of PJ. Hopefully she will be at FLIBS this year.
