Most charter yachts are not just charter yachts, they are private but do charters on the side. In many ways I prefer a boat which doesn't sit for weeks at a time.

    Another thought

Charter business is tight rite now. I don't think things are really coming around like others say; it is tight and very competitive.
New boats, yachts, ships enter the charter service and the older, out of date, used up plan, aged interior, decor. Without a inflatable slide or pop out side deck. Can only hold 4 to 6 guest, draws 6 feet. dry exhaust, Yada, yada, you get the point.

Sometimes charter boats have to go away and new better ones come in.
Yet, they could be a cream puff. Here is where the surveyor comes in. We all preach it; a good surveyor could be worth his weight in gold (or dust). You must find a good one familiar with what your looking at.

We all here have seen good bargains come and go, we have witnessed disasters also. Don't be discouraged, homework and surveys and any other resource you can think of to protect your self and wallet.

Can you fill us in on the ad? Maybe some one here has been on board or knows the boats. U.S. built boats?

This also means island engineering a lot of fixes so that the charter happens, but a lot of times they never get around to fixing the broken item properly because they're too busy too and it's forgotten until it breaks again.

The US customs import duty is only paid 1 time, so if the vessel was imported into the US before, this is a moot point as it stays with the boats USCG registration number. Otherwise it's the 1.5%. If the boat is built in the US, Canada, or Mexico there is no importation duty due to NAFTA.

If you document it in FL, the maximum sales tax is $18,000 and that is precisely what I would do. If you're operating a 400 net ton vessel, the insurance company is going to require that your Captain has a 500 ton master minimum or one heck of a resume anyways.

In the midst of all this, rcapps made the key point. Get a good surveyor. Don't guess and speculate. You care about it's condition right now. It can appear to have had perfect maintenance on paper and in reality be a mess.
