    Hi,

Probably because there would ave been major disruption at the Museums where the remaining Sunderlands now spend their days even before any type of Air Worthiness considerations were examined.

The Froggie Fish Pillager was the quickest and probably cheapest way to get the job done.

Well. Judging by the website of the production company holding the rights to the family's story there is a 14 year old trying to sail around the world solo!

oh yeah. Daddy Sunderland had sold the rights!!

Not to worry. Sunderland has a new baby coming. If he puts him out to sea on day 1 he'll surely hold the record for awhile. Were is Child Protective Services in all this. As for him selling the story, WOW, I'm surprised. Here's hoping that's the last dollar he earns in this industry.

Well, a 16 year old girl supports her parents decision to indulge her whims and thinks she's different, more mature, and more expert than all other 16 year old girls. What a surprise. Maybe someone should point out to her that, had she and her parents been so expert, she would have never sailed the southern ocean at that time of year or that the proof of their folly is in the fact that others had to spend money and risk their lives to rescue her.

I've intentionally been quiet in this thread as to not stir the bucket. I will comment with this house, and hope not to do the above.

I've really wanted to get behind her and support the adventure and not take the role of a 'helicopter' parent, *however* there is so much wrong with this story and chain of events, that it's really hard to do so.

She'll be home, safe, (thank Poseidon, perhaps  ) which one would hope there will be some time to reflect back on what you did right, wrong, and haphazardly.

In an ideal world, one would base future activities on prior lessons.

Haha! I wouldn't be surprised if the RAAF still have those, we only just took delivery for the F/A-18F's :D

It's only a matter of time before one of these young kids have to loose there life to break some stupid record, shame really.

Good news for me though, I have Abby coming into work to do a few of my hours... it's the least she could do

The thing I hate about could-should-morale-behavior discussions is that you can never be just right unless you keep silent ;)

First, took me an effort not to rush in girl's defence (because all being said, there are 16 y/o's in the world who did good and serious things many a physically and psychically fit 35's never did). Now after reading her rant I've got to refrain from saying things to the opposite (because she surely speaks... "very mature", hoo-hum).

At the end of the day, it's a free world. Many people do risky and unproductive things quite purely for amusement. Many of them get into trouble. And unfortunatelly, some of those don't get out. Let's cheer to the latter not happening this time!

Any person that starts something like this ought have to put 10 times the amount of a "typical" rescue- and then pay it if they are rescued, and if they don't have the $ then they ought to go to jail, period. I have no good thoughts about stunts like this or the people that attempt them.

The smart person seeks at least a second opinion and heeds words of wisdom. Since children are impulsive they're blessed with a built in second opinion, and one that has the authority to say 'No'. Parents. Nothing wrong with what this girl did. I probably did more crazy, poorly thought out things myself. It's the parents that didn't do their job, but instead were willing to sacrifice their children for their own egos.

Their egoes, or their ideals about how they as parents could avoid the "we prohibit that... not like we really can stop you from trying tho" hypocrisy that accompanies parents-children relations through the millenia... I wouldn't venture to say.

Like, you know, if your daughter comes to you saying that it's her dream to be the youngest women to do-whatever, and she actually works towards it (well she made it that far after all, huh. I most likely wouldn't had, and I'm a fit male tvice the age.) - it's rather tarfu. You say yes, and you end up "irresponsible ego" and stuff. Besides, you might just turn grey while she's doing that. You say no, and you may be crushing your children's will in life with your own hands. Being a parent is by far not an easy job.

This is not 'I want to go to the mall' or even 'I want to drink booze'. This is something threatens your child's life and that couldn't happen without the parents complicity. Besides, if parents aren't up to saying "No!" to their kids, they have no business being parents. Once you sign onto the job it's yours for life. Do it right. That said, this was not a case of inability to say no. This was parents willing to risk their children's lives for profit and notoriety.

Really? You believe she did this entire venture on her own...? She bought the boat with her allowance and baby-sitting cash... is that it? Her parents had nothing to do with any of it... they didn't support her aspirations, help get funding, push her along, stroke her 16 year old ego....

    Right.

I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you too...
