I'll be more interested to hear what happens on the back docks than with the 90'+. We know those guys still have $.

There is going to be a big problem for those of us that work on the yachts under 90' here is in the US in the future as I see things. I have been seeing tons of used boats selling over the last few years, and a good amount of repo's selling lately and they're all leaving the country. Nobody in the US is buying new yachts to replace them, even a few new boats are leaving. So the overall inventory of yachts in the US keeps dwindelling and I don't forsee the inventory of yachts increasing in the next couple of years here. So everyone in the business is going to be scrambling for whats left. Right now the marina's down here in Fort Lauderdale are very empty.

The guys who were hoping to steal business by undercharging these past few years have no reserves or reputations and are droping out like flies around here. For the rest of us it will mean a few more pasta dinners at home, but we'll be here when the boats sell again. As I told someone the other day: been here; done this; survived it and will survive it again. Sometimes it's good to be older.

    J,

Second-hand boats in the 45 to 58 range have been snapped up over here in great numbers by Northern Europeans and Scandis. Due to the £pound diving against the Euro, they were getting an extra 50c on the $ from 3 years ago.

Its starting to slow down a bit now as the £pound is picking up but we are still getting many European and Brit boats over at the boatyard due to the fact we are VAT/TVA Sales Tax free here in the Islands.

Owners are now seeking real value for every $ they spend, not like the old days where they just went to the same old guys year after year.

That reads to me like a simple and direct question.

Maybe its author will explain if it had some other meaning but I don't see how that could be interpreted in any other way.
