Shell Rotella T and T1 oil

    I think they've combined things on their approvals and there is actually a split prior to MTU, so it's saying for MTU that it's MTU Categories 1 and 2. That indicates that it's not MTU Category 3. The only Shell oils to meet MTU Category 3 are Normina Extra, Rimula R5 M, Rimula R6 M, and Rimula R6 ME. None of the Rotella's.

    They do try to make this as complicated as they can, don't they?

    I'm guessing Shell is bottling it at different refineries, perhaps not even themselves, and it's obviously not the same oil inside the same barrel as it doesn't even carry the same rating.

    API quit assigning CF2 ratings a few years ago, so any new formulations won't carry it. Use the tried and true or check with the refiner.

    I had to read this post a few times.
    I even went to the boat and garage to see what was on the pails.

    It says Rotella "HD T1 SAE 40"

    Before I read this post, I did not know there was a difference.

    BTW, Bamboo the Rotella HD T1 SAE 40 is available at Long Island Truck, they have a place in Babylon on Rt 27.
