Symptomatic of misguided naval architecture I'm afraid - a 53' Hatteras "gone wrong" -- ouch!:(

I remember that old Hatteras and when she received her new look. She was on the market for sale forevvver.

Ugly boats, thank heaven, eventually disappear. I mean, who would own such a rediculous perversion of a classic design? Jack Hargave is doing 300 RPM as we speak.

As for that Cruisers at FLIBS, too bad you didn't get a closeup shot, Carl, of the sticker on the hullside that reads "Inflate to 60 psi"

The word "rogue" is defined with various meanings in a wide selection of dictionaries. May I present an image that could very well define "our" meaning... the 1982 55' Hickman Sea Sled.

If you add an addition to a home... it increases in value.
If you add an extension to a yacht... it increases in value.

Not sure what happens to the value on this one... but the expression on the face of a Sea Ray purist would be priceless!

    Indeed a great thread.

Carl has, in #55, my vote for the ugliest boat so far. It is a little known fact that the Hickman Sea Sled ( a much smaller but more handsome boat) way back when was the precursor to the Boston Whaler, late '50s-early '60s?

And the Sea Ray in #56... oops, WATCH OUT! Don't step in the puke that Connie Ray just left behind!

It looks like Jack isn't immune to the Rogue's thread either! :D Word is, this was one of his designs...

The house & bridge looks like Hargrave... but the bow looks like an old Stapleton, the transom looks kinda custom. Are those engine air intakes all the way aft? Vee drives, maybe... Jack did do one Hatteras, the 64 MY, with vee drives (and it was such a screaming success, that was the ONLY Hat ever built with engines facing the 'wrong' way).

Carl, you have unimpeachable sources, certainly, but this boat is very much unlike all the other stuff that Jack penned.

I was surprised too. Came across it on YachtWorld last night. Although it was late and I was tired, when I saw it I had to look twice, rub my eyes, and re-read it again. The listing said it was custom built from a Jack Hargrave design. Had to right click it and save it. Couldn't believe it!

I just looked for the listing, to provide a link, but I can't seem to find it now.

At first I took this for two boats side by side, but it was all on the same hull so I took a picture for our little collection...:)

The name of the boat is "mechanic". It's certainly in need of one...
