Not sure if you were talking to me but if you were, I have been actually considering trying to cut the transom open right at the sides where it starts to round and either create a full width power fold down extension possibly with power fold-out swim platform with flip-up rails to accommodate extra people for family outings or if that gets to be too extensive for modifications I might just do it simple. That would just be cut, lay flat, weld-in and support with a new solid wall. The only concern is how the boat would ride having extra weight hanging behind original transom wall.

A simple passage wouldn't be too hard to do. These are pretty solid structures and cutting the size of the passage out and re-creating end plates for both sides of the opening would be pretty simple. Maybe a little extra bracing from bottom corners of hull to opposite top corners could be necessary. The hardest part would be trial and test fitting the door and getting the proper angles on the edges for a snug fit without excess gaps but keeping it loose enough so that temperature fluctuations or rough waters don't jam it closed.

    Roamer Parts

    YachtsmanBill,
I am looking for a section of wood hand rail. I can send dimensions.

Also, Have you located any of the aluminum trim pieces on the mid/late 1960's Roamers? I can resend a pic of the trim pieces, if needed.

    Many thanks.
    David
  5. Hey man... I havent forgot about you!! I'll be storing the Roamer at that yard next winter, I hope, and may be able to get that aluminum trim then, if you can wait it out. If I recall, that was the edge trim off the corrugated side panels right? Long horizontals or short verticals???
Which handrail parts do you need? Straight or curved (tafrail). I have a bunch of long stuff that may need to be re-dimensioned. Its a bit wider than the Roamer stuff... Came off of a pacemaker. ws

    A Sad Day

Well, I didn't want to do it but the old girl went to the scrap yard. The good thing is that I don't think he wants to cut it up just yet. 1964 32' Roamer Riviera if anyone is interested. She is still a very savable boat. 283 ci motors in tact, good trannys, props, rutters were froze. The interior was all in good shape except a little water damage in the front corners (common but I did silicon the heck out of all the joints for a temp fix until I got to do more to her so it wouldn't get worse). If anyone is interested, pm me and I'll give you the yard's phone number and location. Save her if you can fellas, don't let my divorce be the demise of such a beautiful old boat.

    Not Side-Oilers.. Sorry

The are Ford Truck block 427's. They are called Top Oilers. If the blocks are good, The 427 Cobra Kit Car boys will be all over them.. they are worth bucks. Those blocks are Hot Items! Highly buildable.. one of the best gas engines ever made IMHO. 454's were a bit faster but Fords had much better torque. I had both engines in the boat so can tell you this for sure.

Still got those roamer name plates? Working 25 years and putting finishing touches on a 46' aluminum aft cabin cruiser that they'd look awesome on. Let me know. Also looking for a couple of the rail hinges. Already have the latch end.
    Any helps appreciated.
    Thanks, Wayne.
