Back from a week to Bonaire

Back from a week to Bonaire, pretty rough sea, 5-7 ft but no problem for the 'old lady' :)

11 Days in The Abacos aboard "MoonShine Too" = Paradise

A great time leaving from Jupiter FL, to West End, to Treasure Cay (and the rest of The Abacos) with the family!

Boy do I miss my Garmin MFD. I currently have a Furuno NavNet MFD but I think the Garmin plotter is much nicer. The one thing I'll say about the Furuno though is that I like that it affords me more versatility with adjusting the sounder which is vital for a bottom dropper like me....

Finally getting some time to do some updates after a long good season up here. We met a few other Post owners on Block Island this past August when we fished the Tri-State Canyon Tournament. Below is a video I put together from the tournament and a summery of our trip. If anyone was there and we might have met up give me a shout, I may not remember as it was Block Island after all.

We fished 5 days straight with the first one at Hydro then Veatch and finally the Hudson for Tri-State. Hydro was tough, the water was extremely warm and almost unfishable due to the weeds. We had some nice Marlin action in the flats but had to work hard for Tuna (Fishing was better in Welker and Ocean). Veatch had a bunch of Mahi and Marlin in the flats and a decent Bigeye bite on the temp break but good size yellows were harder to find.

The Hudson was a completely different story, we were there with less than 10 boats which is a rare experience. There was a ton of life with whales and bait very thick. Within the first few hours we had a nice Bigeye bite that spooled a 70 at full drag before spitting the hook when it ran at the boat. Over the afternoon we had a nice Blue Marlin and nothing else until sunset. We had another Bigeye bite just before dark and hit the lure so hard it twisted the hook and straightened it. Overnight we got into the yellowfins up to almost 60lbs and several good size Mako's one of which almost ended up in the cockpit on its second jump. Got spooled and dropped a few fish overnight as well. Didn't get a sword bite.

In the morning we got into some nice schools of Albies and Skipjack. With the clock counting down and needing to leave by 10:00am, we got the bite we were looking for with our third bigeye bite at 9am. We fought the fish for an hour, dodging pots, and doing everything we could to get the fish to the boat. With the Bigeye making its final death circle, and being 3 cracks from the Gaff the leader snapped and ended our hopes for the tournament. The bigeye was well over 200lbs so it would have probably done well but it wasn't in the cards for us this year.
Before this we have lost very few fish as a team but every now and then you get your butt handed to you, so we have some work to do before next year. We did end up weighing in an Albacore and Yellowfin but couldn't find a damned Mahi for the Tri-Fecta. At the awards banquet, I was very surprised to hear that we won money in the Homeport Calcutta for our Yellowfin. Gave a little better ending to a tough day. and shows that you should always make sure you weigh your fish in.

This was my first year running my boat in this tournament and we had a blast. I can't say enough good things about Kyle at JB Tackle and how he runs this tournament. It is very smooth and a class act. run tournament. By far the most enjoyable tournament I have ever fished. If you have a chance to fish it, you should. Thanks to my Team for a great time and it was great to see some old friends and make some new ones.

Enjoying the looks of the new windlass configuration (1" black starboard base plate, Maxwell windlass and cleat).
Tomorrow I will clean the sealer/blue tape and install the rope and SS chain…

Coastaladdict, did you replace the cabin door and is it now hinged? I am looking to modify or replace the sliding door on my 42'. Do you have a close up picture of the door you could post?
