    Maltese Falcon, Sail Aerodynamics

On another forum I had posted some discussions of sailing aerodynamics, and this in particular about Maltese Falcon's rig.

    Dyna Rig update

I had previously posted this back on thread #47. When I went to look at the referenced website it was no longer there. Meantime I did run across this CFD analsyis of Maltese's rig:

Have a look at the illustrations toward the end of the paper dealing with optimizing the sheeting angles for the 3 sails

There is more than a bit of suspense building up for me. I very much want to see her under full sail. Looks beautiful so far but it's only when all sail is out that it will be real.

    Dear Sir

I appreciate you cannot be here in Turkey to see our yacht yourself but we would appreciate that rather than download our website pictures and then put them on yacht-forums, please just add the link !!
Our crew spend a lot of time taking photo's and trying to make a cool website (done in our own time) and its a bit unfair that you just remove them without asking.
Any questions you are welcome to ask but please stop copying our photos

    Jed,

I just returned your e-mail. Thank you for being so understanding.

The images of Falcon have been removed and replaced with a link. We must ALL exercise prudence and good judgement when posting images. If in doubt, just post a link to images.

On this subject... often links and images around the internet are disabled for various reasons, i.e. outdated info, change of DNS, or someone simply forgot to pay the electric bill. Because these links (or images) are a relavent part of our discussions, it would be preferable for the images to be posted to YF because they will become permanently archived. HOWEVER, when images are proprietary to a site, or a person, we must respect their intended use and NOT duplicate or distribute w/o permission.

YachtLuver certainly did not mean any harm. He's an enthusiast that is very excited about the Falcon project. We greatly appreciate when members share news. It not only benefits the community, it benefits the industry.

Again, let's all try exercise good judgement when posting images.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jed,

I respect your opinion. But like Carl said with links and updating a website...

Maybe I have a compromise: Posting pictures with the URL on the photo.

    What do you think about?

    Peace,

LOL Peace. :) I was going to suggest the same... archive the pic on the YF server by attaching it here, but post a direct link to the page where it came from so nobody can question ownership of the photo.

Good suggestion guys. This is the safe & proper thing to do. Still, we just have to use common sense and respect the wishes of others.

BTW... I just received an e-mail from Jed. Everything's OK. He's REALLY a nice guy! Matter of fact, we may have the privilege of learning more details about the Falcon through him. As you can imagine, he's pretty busy right now, but once the Falcon is sailing smoothly (pun intended), he might have time to share some insight and answer some questions.

It would definitely be great to hear more about her systems and how they work. :)

    Multiple Links

So where is your website?? I had a hard time finding it with all of the other "Maltese Falcon" material on the web. I've googled several phrases and have yet to come up with your site??

I think the suggestion to put a link beside the photo is a really good one. But also one of the great features of the internet is to promote a subject. You do that by MULTIPLE LINKS, then lots of different hits brings one to an adjoining subject. I would think multiple links to their website would be more advantagous than claiming proprietary rights to photos.

I can't count the number of times I 've tried to follow some link only to find it not there, or hi-jacked. It's frustrating. I even have a few links on my own site that are no longer valid. (I need to change them, but I don't know the software). I like the idea that certain photos, etc, can appear on a number of sites (particularly quality websites with staying power), and not be possible lost forever.

I would suggest to jediwhite that they post some really interesting stories, and even more details & photos to their website, and then link it to Yachtforums.com, BoatDesign.net, and maybe a few other forums. That should really get their traffic up....hope they have a server capable of handling it.

And think about this. If we don't keep coming up with new material and photos etc, to add to this thread, this subject thread will die out along with its 3800 plus viewers, and we will be onto other subjects, leaving the Maltese site to find its own viewers individually.

In those pictures I see two crew members goofing off in the engine room. Which one is jediwhite?
