Vitruvius Explorer 55 meter Ice Class:
    First blocks on the move

First blocks on the move. 48 tonnes of high tensile, ice class-strengthened steel destined for the hull of the 55m Vitruvius project are turned upright at the Yildiz Gemi facility. Another 55 tonnes will follow shortly as block assembly progresses for completion of the hull and superstructure this Autumn.

The Picchiotti-Vitruvius 55 meters is ice class rated and is built to go through the North West Passage and to sail to Antarctica and so to circumnavigate the globe.Vitruvius Yachts Ltd and Perini Navi have appointed Philippe Briand to be the naval architect for the project. The experienced owner‘s brief called for efficiency, seaworthiness, robustness and sophisticated elegance.

Because of the efficient hull lines and the fine water entree designed by Philippe Briand, The Picchiotti-Vitruvius 55 meters has an autonomy of 9,000 miles and will consume less than 150,000 litres of fuel.

The Picchiotti-Vitruvius Explorer 55m will be delivered to her Owners in Summer 2011. The Picchiotti Vitruvius series marks the continued collaboration between Perini Navi and Vitruvius Ltd under the Picchiotti brand, whose first 50 meters is currently under construction and the delivery of the first unit is planned for 2010.
