Baja California Sur, what is commonly known as "Baja" are two Mexican states, Baja California at the north side of the Peninsula and Baja California Sur, AKA, BCS at the south side of the Baja Peninsula, La Paz is the Capital of BCS, Baja California Sur state.

Regarding size, I suppose a Fleming 58 might be a better fit in the NW.

The Fleming 58 is a great boat. Having closely compared the two and cruised on another's 65, I'd lean toward the 65. More volume, with all the advantages that go with that.

A tip - for marina to marina cruising with either during the busy summer months you'll want to plan well ahead and make reservations. Under 50 feet you can sometimes be accommodated on short notice. Likely not with either Flemings.

Fleming is the perfect PNW boat. The 65 if operated by a couple is ideal. The 78 or the not yet delivered 85 if crewed. Any are getting close to over kill for cruising to SE Alaska. Except for a few short open to Pacific Ocean stretches it is all protected. I’d stay on the smaller side for the smaller coves? And Flemings all draft 5’.
Go to the Fleming yacht channel on YouTube and watch Tony Fleming’s trips to SE Alaska on his 65 named Venture. He does it for a couple of months every summer. Epic videos too.
The run south to Mexico is fine weather windows allowing. Not many harbors to shelter in most with bar crossings. Run north much harder (unless your crew or a transit captain or you ship it).

Regarding the log problem, would a steel hull be better? Bering comes to mind.

Logs aren’t a concern to me with a solid core hull
Traveling at 8 or 10 knots; need to always be looking for logs and crab/prawn pots. The concern from the logs is they go under your boat and take out a prop or rudder, not that they breach the hull.

It’s also about the submerged water logged logs. Hard to see those puppies. They are not kind on running gear.

Agreed. Despite dodging numerous visible logs/wood during our 3 week north to Desolation Sound, on the last run south we touched a submerged log. We saw it briefly in our wake before it sank out of sight again. It was small and luckily not a deadhead. After checking things out we continued at much reduced RPMs to minimize vibration. Suspected at least one prop was touched. Haul out inspection confirmed one blade (have 5 blade Veems) was bent on just one prop. No other damage. We got lucky (sort of).

Rats! Is the prop shop able to get it true again? Many shops seem to work wonders.
This is but one reason I cruise at hull speed with short runs at 80% Load.

Had both props removed to be cleaned and tuned. Can’t tell which blade it was. Polished, they’re things of beauty. Boat bling! Now I have to coat them. Oh well, can’t see them anyway. Boat goes back in the water this week. Will sea trial to see how they perform.

Tony Fleming has a ton of video on YouTube highlighting a good chunk of the PNW and Alaska that would be well worth watching to start your 'to do' list of the PNW.
