Ok...checked raw water system from inlet to where it dumps by the turbo..all clean and can see thru the heat exchangers and small fuel? Exchanger....big exhaust rubber pipe that goes out the back was not removed as it is on there real good...any other suggestions where to look for issues...all hoses are tight...i am beginning to wonder if the thermostat is hanging up but that looks like a half day job...on the other hand, I found my transmissions shift bracket was loose and got it straightened out...ugh...so much to do
Get an infrared gun and while running at speed check the inlet and outlet temp of the heat exchangers, check the thermostat housing and see what the temperatures are. Compare it to the other motor.
Did that sunday...stbd motor was around 195 and climbing when I pulled it back...port motor was high 160s...exhaust on stbd was 121 out the pipe while port was 98...impeller is good...checked that also
Went thru the raw water system...all was clean...there is no strainer between seacock and raw water pump....besides, how you feeling?
there is no strainer between seacock and raw water pump External strainer or grated scoop? something in there? Sea cock really open all the way? I know the exhaust hose at the dump can is a real PIA, save that for very last. But if you feel young and strong one afternoon, you really need to look in there some time as a maintenance issue anyway to check the inside of that hose.
besides, how you feeling? Get in - Get out - Done mess about - Yo Ho!! Was the doctors path yesterday. The admin took hours, the gas passer and surgeon total 55 mins knock out to awake. Now I know what a Russian Race Horse does feel like. Right kidney back into high production. I'm feeling very well, Thank you very much. I think I'm going to step out today and start reclaiming my work van. We were pinned to a wall till the labor day weekend changing oil and fixing our customers issues before the big weekend. Poor van still full of old oil, filters, trash and one 8A8D battery core and has not moved since 5/24 when my pains started.
The boat does have the grated screen on the bottom to scoop water...just no internal unit...too bad you are not local...lol...glad to hear you are feeling better...one day at a time.....cheers!
You may want to check the exhaust gas/water mixer. If it's corroded or clogged, it will restrict water flow.
Another issue I've run into with an 8v71 TI was very similar like yours. The raw water pump had a 3" spacer between the pump and the inlet hose. The spacer gasket flange was not flat and at times or high RPM's it would suck air from there and not water.
This was my problem years ago. Removed the exhaust hose and took a look up into the elbow. These were cast iron elbows on 671's. They were SUPPOSED to have slotted holes around the perimeter of the elbow and a single large hole in the center where the exhaust gas left the engine. The slotted holes were almost completely clogged with rust. I do not remember how long ago or how many hours were on the engines at the time but I replaced them both ( one on each engine, of course ) twice in my ownership before going to stainless steel mixing elbows. ( that I bought from DeAngelo with great satisfaction )
The mixer is stainless...somebody changed them out some time ago...i dumped a lot of water in the we water side and it disappeared as fast as it went in
Besides, how do you get humungeous pipe off...no space to go back and forth and I swear it is welded on there...lol
At anytime in it's life, if that hose got hot or burned, it's blistered on the inside. You can not tell from the outside. That's why I stated it's a normal maintenance item to do every few years. Two 3/4" water hoses will not come close to the water flow going thru your system and into that dump can at above idle. You could get pretty warm at idle with one hose. Trying to say, A LOT of water goes thru that system. The local fire dept would be proud. This is why any little restriction or low side air leak can cause so many issues.
If you acid cleaned the system, then ran the engine to flush, a bunch of debris could be collecting in the dump can.
Oh, would you have cast mufflers? I remember a horror on an old ChrisCraft. What was that years ago, Otter nest in an exhaust line.
