  1. 106-meter Project 'Solar' Launched by OceAnco
Dutch custom superyacht builder OceAnco has launched their much anticipated project 'Solar' super sailing yacht. This yacht becomes the first sail yacht to be entirely constructed by OceAnco. Of course we saw the launch and delivery of the double-masted sail yacht "Aquijo" which launched from OceAnco but that project was a joint build between Dutch yard Vitters and OceAnco. Project Solar was once known as 'Black Pearl' but it is unclear whether this could be her final name.
  2. Project Solar was built to a design by Nuvolari & Lenard inside and out with Naval Architecture by Dykstra Naval Architects. The true length of Solar is a bit of a mystery as it ranges from 106 to 108-meters and her bow also is a bit of mystery thanks to the owner's wishes. She arrived at OceAnco for finishing with her bow covered in fabric in the shape of a conventional looking bow and also launched with a matching hull colour fabric in the same manner. Clearly the owner wants her reverse/semi straight bow design to be a big reveal! The 2,700 GT superyacht was built at OceAnco as hull Y712 and is suggested to have several energy-saving technologies onboard making her operation more green. At this point it is unclear if she carries photovoltaic panels. However, the designers said this, “We are very proud of the project; it’s not only the largest project but a very environmental project. The project is called Solar and it would rely heavily, or chiefly, on power from solar energy.” The yacht is very beamy with a maximum beam of 15-meters or nearly 50-feet). The total draft is in the region of 23-feet and clearly shows retractable bow and stern thrusters as well as bottom mounted double anchors. Top speed is anticipated to be around 18.5-knots with her three near 200-foot dyna rig masts. Onboard this very large yacht will be space for just twelve guests in six suites. Delivery is penned for early 2017.
