Antalis was in Serce Buku Baglietto's "Antalis" was in Serce Buku. This is a very nicely sheltered bay, more like a marina with a narrow enterence and close to all weather. However, due to high hills around the water there could be severe gusts in the bay. Actually a very old ship wreck from 11th century was found at the enterence of the bay, most probably they might have sunk while seeking shelter from a storm. The bay is located just across Rhodes. http://www.bodrum-museum.com/museum/depts/glasswreck.htm "Antalis" had pocket balconies to watch the anchors, which was kind of strange
Forty Love was in Hisaronu Bay Forty Love was also in the area. There are also pictures of a nice sailboat cruising in the bay. The prevailing winds in the bay are northwesterly and mostly around 15-20 knots, so ideal for sailing. The weather is not very humid (50-60%), so to spend the evenings in one of the nicely sheltered coves around the bay at 24 degrees celcius is very pleasant.
Very nice pictures Nilo, thanks. BTW, I believe fold out bow platforms are for mooring and unmooring. Watching the ropes and so forth instead of having to peep through the rop eyes or strain over the f'c'stle walls. They are very very common on modern cruiseships and are now being built in more often on yachts. "A", "Predator", "Ecstasea" spring to mind that have these bow platforms but in the case of Antalis, the crew were watching the anchors with them.
Thanks for the photos, I remember Serce Bay many years ago being completely isolated thanks to the lack of asphalt. It was one of my favorites as well, but now with the open road, runabouts come and go and spoil things a bit. Also the restaurants at both inlets had generators left from the Second World War. (This was two years ago, I don't know if it had changed). Interesting sounds to listen to during the night. Nilo the wreck excavations at the bay entrance were carried out by Texas A&M University in 1970s; nice to know that someone (even 6000 miles away) was interested in it. Would it be ok to install a few video cameras near the bow for the anchors? Wide-angle lenses? I'm curious.
road to serce bay I have travelled that road a couple of times during the winter. Actually it is quite an off road type installation, going throught the pastures of the village nearby. You have to drive some 8 km in the pastures before reaching the inlet. So, thanks to this difficult conditions, only real valunteers or people from the local village come and go. Actually, I happen to know George Bass from Texas University who carried out the project. Cemal Pulak and Tufan Turanli who took active part in the project were my school mates and I still keep a close contact.
motivator Thanks for all the photos Nilo! My business partner comes back from Turkey tonight and after seeing these pics I said to myself, why not. Leave at 8:00 PM tonight
Haluk Bey, Having visited several marinas all over the world, I still believe Club Marina is one of the most exclusive marinas I've stayed.
