the hull should have been placed on a low bed trailer and driven to the location instead going by the visuals it was an accident waiting to happen because there was nothing no controls to stop the floater from hitting the rocks .. ..

    Simples

And the tug captain why did he bother inthe first place ..

    Hi,

Colintraveller, You obviously have very little idea of what is involved in the construction of a 70m Steel Motor yacht or the pricing that this type of project supports.

You would be lucky needed to get a German yard to build you a 70m yacht like what this was going to be for under twice the quoted price.

As for road freight , the hull with out any equipment would be the better part of 300 tons, I have not seen too many roads that can support that let along getting it between the islands on a trailer.

Usually, when transporting a new hull over the water (at least here in Holland), it is placed on top of a barge, then towed. Then again, the distances are a lot shorter. In commercial shipbuilding it is quite common to tow a hull from Poland or Romania to Holland.

Cutting corners here and there might give you a low estimate for the total cost in the beginning, but you will probably end up with a yacht which costs about the same amount of money (or more) in the end. In the process, you'll have lost some hair as well.
I find that all superyacht owners are avidly looking for the best value for money, but for some reason newcomers are a lot more inclined to take risks than experienced yacht owners.

But now I am basing theories on a number which showed up somewhere which may be totally unreliable. Reminds me a bit of the Fox News coverage of the 200 Million $/day trip to Asia of Barack Obama.
