Here is the original Starck concept, which is a much better looking yacht.
But from dream to reality the beauty often fades away...

You're right Lars... those renders are somewhat jaw-dropping! Reality is such a pain in the ass sometimes! :D

I can't say I like the "conning tower" look that it's got going on there...

That is true Lars, but lets hope that the reverse applies in the case of the Freedom Ship...

I can imagine the worlds terrorists sitting around a table in a cave somewhere, just waiting to blow that one up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean:confused:

Norm Nixon is a visionary, but it doesn't look good that the last news update was Feb. this year. I think the world situation right now is not conducive to finding investors with pockets deep enough to fund such an enormous vessel.

Norman may be a visionary, and the theory behind such a project is quite remarkable, however, when it comes to the look of it, I sure as heck wouldnt want to live in an over grown 1980's Volvo! It needs a few curves here and there! And that is comin from someone who loves straight lines!

This doesnt really do anything for me aesthetically! And if you are gonna live, work, rest and play on it then it has to do something for me visually!

Do you think it is possible to have yachts and boats around the stern under way??? They must have planed it as a harbour when the F_ship isn't under way or??
I remember reading in a magazine that the the speed of the F_ship would be quite low (like 3-4 knots) so maybe it's possible to moor yachts in calm conditions anyway!?

Well, by the look of this image, they have not got out-of-water storage for boats, so they must be docked, however, it seems you have to be able to climb the mast of your boat and leap on to the quay side to get on board! They have not yet included low enough platforms to get on and off! :s

Makes you wonder how serious this project is!

...And how ironic... when you register on their website to recieve news updates, there is no category for 'Design' under Current Profession - seems they have overlooked design completely! ;)

A ship this size wouldn't move much because of sea conditions.... so if there where a docking area in the aft maybe 10ft over the waterline it sure would be under the waterlevel most of the time!!!!!!

This old design of the F_ship is more like several parking places for yachts etc.

Those are tiny thrusters compared to the size of the vessle. I would think any serious wave action would stop this thing dead.

But, if those small engines run the length of the craft, you would think that would get her moving... wouldn't you ?

As I said before the topspeed was about 3-4knots!!!

most likely the trusters are rotatable, so the ship can be in one position without the need of anchor-equipment (the size of an oilrig to keep this one in one place:D )
