you are correct. frank mulder is the designer and dirk mulder is the owner of the mulder shipyard. believe he is the second generation and i do not think there is any relationship between the two.

Horizon is ranked 6th in the world in total length under construction for yachts above 80 feet only. This doesn't include any of their builds below 80 feet. Horizon's been around for 20 years and I think they have superb quality and finishing.

Technology wise they are also superior to many well known builders. They use the SCRIMP technology for their hulls and fiberglass parts.

Their main attraction is their quality and flexibility in offering customization and working with the owner's needs.

The obvious choice is to go for italian. Now, wether this is an italian product or italian design...same thing. Of course you will pay less when going italian design/italian built, and the right way to get a nice decent yacht is probably Ferretti, Azimut, Dominator or Marquis (Nuvari)...you get what you pay. And of course you will pay much much more when going for italian design/american built like Palmer Johnson for instance. And you will pay more.

Now, I'd certainly go for italian/italian when the basic use doesn't exceed the average 100 hours per year, and I'd certainly think twice when my intention is to put hours with 4 numbers on the engines.

These are the two major considerations you should go through before taking decision.

    Hi Nas,

I occasionally do some work for Mulder. I don't know what you boss wants from his yacht, but designwise the Mulder 68 is absolutely the best looking yacht. Most Mulders have a good performance. They usually do 25-30 knots.
They are currently building a 105' yacht which uses the design of the 88.
Mulder only uses the best suppliers Holland offers. They are pretty tough and the finishing is top. The current Mulders are designed by Guido de Groot. They all look sporty and stylish. These designs will still look good after 20 years. They will stand the test of time. I'm not sure if the same counts for most of the flashy GRP bathtubs.

In case your boss is in a hurry, Mulder also offers the Pantera yachts. These are 50 knots+ Fabio Buzzi designs. They will definately mess up your hair.

In case you want more info on Mulder yachts or your boss needs Dick's phone number, drop me a private message.

I've attached a nice shot of the Mulder 59 Convertible. My favorite Mulder.

That 59 Mulder really does exhibit classic lines. I agree: she'll look great many years from now.
