The Andrea Gail chugging up the 300+ foot swell before it sank in The Perfect Storm (DOH.... someone got this one)

    Or more recent.

In Battleship. The Missouri is at flank speed, they drop the port anchor (still at flank) Just before it runs out they hard to port which slews the ship sideways as the anchor chain snaps tight, and they are able to do a surprise broadside to the alien ship.

    Great scene though.

Speaking of John Candy - In the Great Outdoors they ran "Suck my Wake" up the concrete ramp on it's bottom and prop and then were able to just stick it back in the water and use it without any repairs. Love that movie and water skiing scenes.

    Boat "What's he saying?"
    John candy : "You *******!"
Boat : "Go Faster? - Ok"

    Turn It Up And Enjoy!

I just watched Battleship Battleship - Official Trailer #2 (HD) - YouTube last night; what an awesome movie.

Great sound track and special effects, boy meets sexy girl, Dad hates prospective son-in-law, lizzard eyed aliens, cool spaceships, loud high tech weapons, guided missiles, hot lady sailor, the ocean, Navy veterans, and lots of really Big Boats with really Big Guns that save the world!

What more could you ask for?

The other night, a modern 'classic' was shown on cable.

Sahara, with Penelope Cruz & Matthew McConaughey.

    Sahara (2005) - Trailer - YouTube

Dirk Pitt at his finest. Clive Cussler is such an iconic writer he even translates nautical miles at sea into kilometers for authenticity. The speedboat is, I'm guessing, a ChrisCraft of some sort with the standard bulletproof seats and windshield.

As an added bonus a landyacht was made from a crashed aircraft, windsurfed across the desert on one wheel.

This one is pure class.

I used to think that The Poseidon Adventure (the original one) was pretty far fetched...until rogue waves were discovered and encountered...still not sure an actual wave could capsize a monster cruise ship but then again, who knows??

Anyway, the thought of surviving a capsizing and then making one's way to the hoped for aft portion of the ship through upside down decks, dead bodies, mountains of debris, etc was pretty scary to a young kid...I even cried when Shelly Winter's character died...HAHAHAHAHA

    Cheers.

When I think of the P Adventure, the Poseidon Adventure, I think of Bette Midler-Sophie Tucker - YouTube !

If you haven't seen Bette do Sophie before replay the video for a real hoot!
