Sofia was launched on the 3rd of September 2012, she's now moored at Moonens Groot-Ammers yard. No submarine visible alas

(I assumed her submarine would be carried inside some hatch or stowage space of some kind, but I understand the sub will be placed on her aft swim platform, judging by the very realistic impressions on the Moonen website)

The sub will be strapped to her swim platform. That boat is just gorgeous though, the best looking Moonen to date.

Agreed. I think she was called "Sofia III" in build but her actual name is "Sofia" now.

News from Moonen...

New Agent for Moonen in Russia

We are pleased to introduce to you our new agent in Russia. Holland Yachts has a goal to bring premium Dutch quality to the fast-growing Russian market. This makes it the ideal partner for Moonen as we continue to build superyachts for our growing Russian client base.

Holland Yachts was founded in St Petersburg in 2005 and its director Leo Neumayer has seen the enormous potential of the Russian market continue to grow. “The Russians have really caught the yachting bug and even the economic crisis has not stopped them enjoying the sailing lifestyle in increasingly larger yachts. We have also opened an office in the elegant new port of Tivat in Montenegro, which has rapidly become a key meeting point of superyachts owned by Russians.”

With the demands of its clients continually increasing, Holland Yachts was looking for a partnership with a reliable brand that was capable of building yachts over 23 metres. “Quality was equally as important as length,” adds Leo. “Russian owners expect nothing but the best and yachtbuilders in Holland are viewed through this lens. With more Russians commissioning superyachts from Moonen, we are delighted to become the yard’s agent in this area of the world.”

The most recent Moonen to be delivered to a Russian client was the fast displacement Moonen 82 Alu called My Way. According to Leo, the success of this project reflects a growing trend among more sophisticated Russian owners. “After gaining experience with mass-production GRP yachts, many Russians are keen to take a more individual approach. They are much more interested in owning an exclusive yacht made in aluminium or steel. Add in the phenomenal technology and craftsmanship available at Moonen Shipyards and you have the perfect solution. Our goal now is to ensure that the cooperation with Holland Yachts also provides a superior standard of service to all our clients.”

You will find us onboard the Moonen 97 Sofia II, docked at berth 321A: The only reason that the owner is selling this lovely vessel is that he’ll soon take delivery of a brand-new 42-metre custom motoryacht from Moonen!

As it seeks to find a new owner for Sofia II, the Moonen Brokerage team can leverage on its rich experience. In April last year it has sold the fourth Moonen 97, now called Alaska. I heard that something happened to Sofia on her sea trial. Lost steering and crashed. Shame! A boat is never the same after that.
