I have seen their shed door open numerous times On warm days even when they had a new yacht in their yard. Sometimes just for ten minutes. Just need Some luck.

Yeah while it is great for owners and guests it also represents a potential danger...

I just saw a video on a crewebsite where a yacht looses here towline on a cruise from Marseille to Gibraltar at pretty rough sea (approximately 3-4m high waves) and the 30ft centerconsole drifting around heavily. After the captain got close enough two deckhands had to jump and swim towards the tender for securing it with a new line...(they were secured with lines and life wests as well)
Imagine the crewmember's head could have smashed while boarding the tender under these conditions.

And I know at least one other incident so the danger is not that unrealistic.

I have an 18 ft wide body Nautica tender, which I would like to repower. She currently has an eleven year old pair of Yamaha 60s, and handles very well, but is a little slow.(27 kt top, 20 kt cruise) I wonder if going to a pair of 70s would help speed much? I might also consider a single 135, but worry that I would miss the maneuverability of the twins. The other problem is that the builders plaque limits me to 130 hp. Nautica is no longer in business, so could I get a surveyor to say it is ok? The new engines weigh less, and I could beef up the transom to handle the extra torque.

Manufacturers stated horsepower ratings are generally conservative. As a rule, I refer to this number as a suggestion. If you double your horsepower you double your fun!

Your real concern is if the transom is strong enough to carry the additional weight and how it will affect the center of gravity. Switching to a single outboard will not only allow you to have more horsepower at a reduced weight, but you will eliminate the drag of the additional motor. With regards to maneuverability, aren't Nautica's bumper boats?

IMHO 2 motors means double maintenance and double trouble. I'd prefer to go to the single, larger HP option. Twin OB setup (unless counter rotating), I think, is a PIA to maneuver. For a tender, I'd much prefer the simplicity of the single engine.

I read on Milow's thread about the upcoming Monaco Show that Camper & Nicholson are to show one of their new boats as a tender there.
