Perhaps you have been fortunate enough never to have been confronted by tragedy. I've been away and am just catching up so have just read this thread for the first time. Black humour is usually the result of people being confronted with a situation that they can relate to and feel quite bad about.
It doesn't by any means indicate that people are harsh or uncaring, perhaps the opposite in that they feel enough that they need to get it off their chests. Better than not caring at all, but perhaps just a cultural thing. It's better to laugh than to cry.. The poor sot that just lost a vessel, by whatever means, is one that none of us want to be.
    Cheers.

I don't know how it is in Canada but I disagree. First of all it is unrealistic to think the someone has never experienced any sort of tradegy in their life and second of all I think the comments are not only rude and annoying but unproductive to this Forum. With that said, I hope that this topic dies and we go on to be productive and use this forum what it is really for

    Bahamas,

Your sentiment is duly noted and genuinely respected. Codger, one of our most respected members, was pointing out how some people deal with tragedy... using humor as a defense mechanism. I thought he explained it very well and his intentions were not only benign, they were insightful.

In response to your request, I will lock the thread. Let's move on with productive and helpful discussions. Thanks again for bringing us news from the islands. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. :)
