    We interrupt this video extravaganza to answer the OP. In the Med, and a lot of the Carib, there are often (usually) no finger piers or pilings or defined "slips". Look up the term "Mediterranean Moor". You put down the anchor and back to quay, it is the only way to get off the boat. You go bow in, then what do you do, hang a ladder off the pulpit? It just isn't done. Some harbors have weighted lines anchored to the bottom that they will have brought up to secure your bow once you are in place. Lots of fenders required, and often it ends up being a "raft up" with adjoining boats.
