    Apologies to Judy!

A friend worked with the "Theodore the Tugboat" producers... and there certainly are lots of human attributes given to various craft... albeit on a kids level. It would be fun to see what a short claymation yacht movie that pokes fun at us adult humans would be like...

I agree that there's lots of interesting description potential. Hopefully no one will actually build them to the point of charicature... except as dude boats for kids....

When a friend of mine, who is a true boat nut (aren't we all) first looked at my boat, he said "now that is a HANDSOME boat!"
That I suppose is a masculine description.
Yet I still always refer to her as she.
Other boats I have owned were BEAUTIFUL.

So, it's just someone's perception, unless we decide that pods are one gender and shafts another! In which case we will have to turn the vessel over to check, as if it was a puppy.:D

Here is another try... Hope it works!

When I first saw the stairs on ISA yachts I remember saying "Those stairs climb to heaven!" , so i review in my opinion would say; "... a marvelously appointed stairs that will take you in a climb to heaven. On this yacht, heaven is called 'sun deck' and one can't tell whether the sun casts its' light onto this deck or absorbs its' warmth from the cozy seating spread all around the deck..."

You can also mention the boats wake saying: "While boats create wake, this lady gently drapes it behind her foot print while she graciously cuts the water as if walking through beds of flowers.

    Cheers,

I think there's a few ways a boat can go. A feminine styled boat usually struts curves and soft lines, which is usually seen in a boats sheerline, cabin features where you'll see radius features and detailing.

Masculine styled boat usually boasts aggressive lines and features where there will be little or next to no radius used on the features and sheeline.

Then there's a bit of a cross over where both stylings are used on a boat. Kafue's boat is a good example, it has a two tone colour scheme, with the light blue highlighting the curve in the sheerline, but it has sharp windows giving the boat an arggressive look. Or Sunseeker is another example of a cross over, they utilize a lot of curves, but use them aggressively with sharp edges... I think "Sharp" would be a good word to describe them.

    Just some thoughts. Cheers

A few comments on Theodore Tugboat: The personification is an interesting idea; it doesn't quite work for my purposes, but I like the concept.

Theodore Too was designed by naval architect Marius Lengkeek of Lengkeek Vessel Engineering of Dartmouth NS. She was purpose built as a living model of the cartoon character and was never intended to be a functioning tug, but needed to be seaworthy and ocean going. Theodore was recently on a goodwill mission to Florida and Bahamas and frequently is the lead in boat parades and tall ships display; however, her main role is as the mascot for Halifax Harbor where she is home ported. Murphy's On The Water is Theodore's owner.

Odd calling Theodore a "she" eh? My preferred morning coffee is from my Theodore Tugboat mug - how can you not start the day smiling :)

In my view, work boats and military vessels aside, trawlers, long range cruisers and sport fishers are typically described in masculine terms while pleasure yachts, speedboats, lobster boats etc are described in feminine terms. As an example Nordhavns would be masculine while Rivas would be feminine.
