    I love challenges

I can agree with CTdave. It's a great site. By the way, you can find some informations about "Shacar". But, not the shipyard. Only the Hullyard: Henderson, WA

Well I cheated again, and looked at my favorite site that I mentioned above. If my vision is correct the stern says she has a hailing port of Key West and on the USCG site their is a Lucky Dog from Key West. It says she is a 1995 87' Barattuci Yacht built of Wood!? I never heard of Barattucci...

Hi everyone I’ve been lurking on and off for some time in this forum.
After seeing a lot of speculation and about various yachts I figured it was time to have my say.
First of all I suspect that Wombat & Magpie, built by Layman Morse could have an Australian connection since they are both wildlife found in Australia.
Gazelle was built by Oceanfast in Perth 1989 originally Mercedes. She was designed by the late Jon Bannenberg and naval architecture by Phil Curran. Mercedes was the first of three yachts by Oceanfast for the same owner, the latest of which is Sycara III. All vessels can be found on the Oceanfast web site.
Shacar, originally Loenen launch in 2000 was built for the CEO of Austal Ships/Oceanfast and was built by Thomascraft. She was designed by some of the Austal/Oceanfast designers with the interior design by Sam Sorgiovanni. Shacar is 87ft long and was recently sold to a family member of a recent Oceanfast client.
Spirit was built by New Zealand Yachts with naval architecture by Brett Bakewell-White and won the 2004 Superyacht Society award for its category.

    Hi Stephen,

Welcome aboard and thank you for the information of Shacar.

When I post threads such as this, I am hopeful that knowledgeable people, such as yourself, will become members and join in the discussion. Although none of us have all of the answers, all of the time, it is the collective knowledge of everyone that makes the site informative and fun.

Eventually, we get the right answers... even if we have to draw a few lurkers into the mix. Looks like our plan worked! ;)

    Again, welcome aboard!

    A rare sight...!

On my last "cruise" on New Years Eve, I saw something that few has ever seen from this spot. An Island on the horizon. To give you a little more to go on, the old town where I was is pictured below. So, which Island is it??

    Well done René!

You probably came to the conclusion I was near Monaco and then it can only be Corsica?

Right, I was in Menton which is in France between Monaco and the Italian border.
Since there was a Mistral, the strong wind that comes down over the Med as an effect of different air pressures between the Atlantic and Mediterranean costs, all the haze over the sea that usually makes it impossible to see Corsica was gone.

I have seen it even more clear in the past, but it happens only a couple of times a year so many locals has never seen it! The mountains are about 2.000 m high and was dressed in snow now, why it was easy to spot in the sunset. I think the shortest distance over is about 90 nautical miles...

    Another Quiz....

Here is a yacht that was recently sold to a gentleman from the same country as her previous owner and she is appearently keeping her name, which is...??

On the picture you can also identify three different countries, an easy guess...??

The three countries have to be (from left to right): France, Monaco and Italy.

    Been there :)

OK, the yacht is on the new pier at the Casino side of the Port of Monaco. Behind you see the French peninsula of Roquebrune Cap Martin and next are the hillsides above Menton. The high mountains are in Italy and to the right is the coastal town of Bordighera. So you were 99 percent right! :)

Now, what is the name of this classic beauty built in the UK in 1961?

Yes, it is the 189´Princess Tanya, built by Austin and Pickersgill.
Sales prices are almost never disclosed, but the asking price is said to have been USD 12.750´ and with the low dollar I should think the discount on that was not very big unless the seller was in a hurry to finance his new delivery... ;)

Yacht brokers sometimes discuss the actual sales prices for two reasons; There are often offers made from different buyers and they have to know what is going on before a deal is closed. They also need to know what is possible to achieve on similar yachts, so they don´t have them listed too high for too long. But in general, the deal is not made public.

Since we have some yacht spotters here, I would like to know if you can say what the name is on the pictured yacht. I have not seen her for a long time when I now found her next to the 75 m Montkaj in Monaco. And the name on the stern (removed here) was not her most recent from what I know? A little puzzling...

Correction: I have now learned that she was sold a couple of months ago and got this new name. Before she had two different names but was owned by the same family since her launch in 1967... :)

You are 100 percent right! :)

She was launched as Terancar Nitani before she got Nadine as "second name". Today quite unique in that she has retained her at the time very modern interior which I hope will remain original like the rest of the yacht.

I was reading today that she also has an integrated bulb, same as I thought I "invented" as you can see in the Lars Modin Design-thread...

    Shacar....

Shacar, 87 ft ( 26.50 mtr) produced by Austal/Oceanfast, Interior by Sam Sorgiovanni,
    Topspeed about 20 knots - cruise@14 knots - Eco range 800 nm; launched: 2000

Lady Tiffany is designed by Michael Peters; 2 x Award winner - where she's built I forgot - she is abt. 117 ft.

Re arranging my files, I came across "New Horizon L" - a Feadship (Van Lent) build ship - what happened with her? The inheritance from her late owner, A. van Leeuwen, was a bit spread out, is she still owned by the estate or is she sold.? A typical design from her era, not particularly a beauty but a very seaworthy yacht as might be proved by her intensive use.

The yacht next to Shacar is most probably "Destriero" - history well known.
