Interesting helicopter hangar. It thought it was made super-wide to accommodate the bird without folding/removing the blades... but nope.

Maybe this is one of the reasons the owner is building a larger but similar in design vessel?

It is made to fit the bird with the blades folded and it will stow athwartships.

Which is basically a great idea. With todays remote controlled and low profile helicopter handling carts no problem. And the boat is big enough for an arthwartship orientated hangar.

Also I personally would not have any use for one of those "little cruise ship" type explorers, I like the concept and the design of this boat. This type of cabin megayacht charter is getting more and more fashionable could be profitable for a potentional buyer or at least would make "megayachting" a little bit cheaper for him.

I believe the original buyer of this yacht will go on his next bigger one for the full 36 passenger according to PYC, to make it more "profitable".

HTM09, you are undoubtedly more knowledgeable than me in these matters, but, does a person who commissions not one, but TWO yachts over 100m at basically the same time really care about profits that much? And even if not charter profits, then resale profits?
Regardless, I am definitely interested in the differences between the two builds. This one on it's own is one of the more interesting ships to come along in a while. It will be fascinating to see what they forgot to throw into the first design, if anything, that they are including in the second.

As far as I know, the first one was originally designed and planned as a full SOLAS yacht with the Passenger Yacht Code not fully thought out at that time. The second, bigger boat is therefore most likely designed according to this PYC with the full amount of 36 passengers. And for sure with many features forgotten on the first one, respectively plus some lessons learned during the first build.

And for a true hearted business man, profit is everything . Just joking.

If one recognizes during the build of a large yacht, he could have done better by going larger, the best thing is to complete the first boat, sell it and build the second one with the lessons learned. Has been done before with some very famous yachts. Like this business man, who has built two famous large yacht with the same yard and is presently finishing his third yacht with the same yard. Pretty expensive learning by doing.

When I say profit, it does not necessarily means, net profit. Reduction of overall anual costs is a type of profit too. Especially if it leads into tax reduction. Megayachting with the tax payer subsidizing your hobby. Commercial yachtng is not my neck of the wood at all but it is very common in the the megayacht world.

My motto is "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's......" and I do not mix the both worlds, means yachts are my private hobby and ships are my business.

If the original owner of this yacht is able to sell his first yacht without to much losses, he has made a lot of profit by having his learning process almost free of charge. But 179.000.000,- Euro is a pretty big number.

Looks like PYC is becoming a success. But materials will need flame-testing. Perhaps yacht interiors can draw experience from VIP aircraft interiors?

If someone wants a boat that can go to any of the seven seas and has a fairly full compliment of toys this one is a prime candidate. It is almost brand new, has good quality machinery and most important for many of these Owners it is available without the long wait to build one.

Plus her capability of longer autonomous operations in highly sensitive areas both in cold (ice classed) and in tropic climates, make her on of the best explorers available today. I am pretty sure, the second one will be even better.

The DP systems, developed for the offshore industry, have found their way into yachting. Explorer yachts like Ulysses can stay in enviromental protected areas for days without dropping its anker. And with their modern waste control systems without any impact on the enviroment.

A person with deep pockets and a vision for the perfect explorer yacht will get a pretty fine vessel and as KIWI said, immediately after the ink is dry (and money has moved from one pocket to the other, of course).
