Ya, I question the speculated $50 million sales figure, as noted in the article, also they have been sitting and oxidizing for the last 6 years:

“Washington Marine Group, North Vancouver, B.C., Canada, said the details of the transaction with Abu Dhabi MAR were confidential. It also stated that it was "bound by privacy and confidentiality contracts and policies, no further comments will be made at this time by the Washington Marine Group of Companies."

The north shore will benefit from the absence of these eyesores, beats me as to what use they could be, as they have failed in all aspects of efficiency. I’m thinking price of aluminum/steel only.

At this time I'm considering getting into selling shovels, with the upcoming "harmonized tax"

    ooo...What's that yacht?...looks nice.

Those cats must be good for something other that scrap!
Someone mentioned removing two of the four engines and have them classed as slow speed ferries.
They did use them for a while here...was the reason for abandoning them a wash and wake issue or high costs to run?

    - First time I've seen that boat myself.
    - Based on this article, the Cats were useless at pretty much everything. http://www.geocities.com/ferries_bc/pacificats.html

The boat spent some time parked in Newport Beach. Very beamy 88'L X 22'W... I like the reverse angle pilot house windows.

A couple of random shots, and some funky Algae induced by extreme heat.

Hey, haven't seen the Alyeska for a while. It was built in Port Alberi a few years back to a Greg Marshall design.
It's interesting as it has a steel hull that was sandblasted and coated with a zinc/aluminum for rust prevention.

The sailboat kind of looks like a Dixon design.

    Alyeska

Alyeska was at Cap Sante Boat Haven in Anacortes a few weeks ago. I believe she is still for sale at a little over $2M US. Beautiful boat.

Interesting, I though Alyeska was a Nordhavn.

I believe the Alyeska was built by an arm of Alberni Engineering called OceanHaven Yachts, but I don't thing they're around as that name any more.

I see in your next batch of photos the Souveneir is back! 'Hope they come up this way soon again.

Hey Outmywindow, the Steveston Lifeboat is featured on the cover of the current issue of Western Mariner magazine.
Neat boat, didn't realize she was wood.
Speaking of wood, the issue features several local wood boat builders. Beautiful stuff!

You gotta love wood, it's the maintenance part that I hate.
Looks like the Steveston lifeboat won't be very active this season, as they mentioned that the Fraser River run is/will be canceled this year do to poor returns.

She's a shadow to the Maltese Falcon. It looked like the crew had a degree in "cleaning".

    Peace Boat

Thanks for the pic of Peace Boat. I'm pretty sure its the Oceanic which was built by Home Lines in 1962-63 for the Genoa-New York Service. At 27 knots she was fast and had lovely lines typical for the late 50s and early 60s. Eventually she became a cruise ship under several names including being painted an ugly red as one of the so-called "Big Red Boats". In the early seventies she was still lovely inside but I have no idea what the years and various standards of upkeep have left us. Still, I was sure she had gone to the breakers so it was a surprise and a treat to see her. One of the last true ocean liners still sailing.

    Sigh

Further research indicates that the Peace Boat is indeed the Oceanic but that the round the world Peace Cruise has not been a stellar performance. She was detained in New York for various violations including a cracked hull!:(
Then she was detained in Vancouver for dumping fuel oil into the harbour.:(
Oh well - she WAS a great ship.
