    I have watched similar systems run in this mode perfectly. A maintenance or float charge is usually removed from the program when working in this mode.

    On a few boats I've been on, (under way) the mains alternators send some juice to the inverter batts. Just when heavy loads do the batts go down and gen set lights up.

    At anchor, inverter & batts till low, then gen-set runs all including charger, then gen-set off, inverter & batts only. Repete.

    A couple of months ago in a boat building mag, was a long article on how much charging a battery cost or saved from an on board gen-set in short & long term money. Scary either way.
