Ah crisp bacon.:) :) :) It pulled me back from being a vegitarian in my younger days and had me arguing with an Irish chef when he absolutely refused to burn it (waste of good food he said). Of course Irish bacon is what we consider "Canadian bacon", not the real stuff.:) BTW, you'd be surprised at how much of the world's population has never been past their own borders. It's not just Americans. Europeans cross borders a lot because going from say France to Spain is like going from NY to Pennsylvania, including cultural differences. This is a big country and there's a lot to see here.
OK back to chartering now. Sorry.

NYCAP, I completely agree with you but why do these boats still go to the freakin' Med?

    Here we've got paradises like:

    The Maldives
Chuuk (aka Truk, famous for it's wreck diving)
The Philippines (Northern part is absolutely safe)
    Thailand
    Indonesia
PNG (the last pristine place on earth)
    Solomon Islands
    Vanuatu (my personal favorite)
    Fiji
    New Zealand, Australia etc. etc.

All maintenance work can be carried out in Australia, New-Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and shore side support can be found in most places.
Apart from Port Morrisby and the southern part of The Philippines it's safer here than anywhere in the Med or the Carib. People are more friendly, it's less commercial and in the end quite likely a lot more economical because you avoid top dollar berths.

All valid points, but (assuming you're over 40) where was the first place you saw mega-yachts? My guess it was on TV coverage of the Canne Film Festival or a Grace Kelly movie. The Med has always been the place to see and be seen. As the crowds there increased people started to spreading out, but that's still the "In" place (Carribean is ideal for their off season because it's convenient to get to for both Europeans and Americans). Language is also a factor, plus the repair facilities were more known and established. These days though yachts charter just about everywhere you could imagine.
Fear not, every place is getting crowded or will be too soon.

Oh yes, 100% agree to these places compared to the Med.

However I've to say you have to do coasts of Italy and Greece once. South coast of France as well once when you're a fancy guy.

But the places you mention you can cruise the rest of your life.

Regarding to bacon, I've to say in China we can find some good bacon when you fry it with an egg...eat it raw?

Indeed we've a lot of Americans in Xiamen as well, very good friends of me but we have sometimes discussions that I think...hum

These discussions mainly end in Hey guys, get real. This is China, what you want?

Nothing negative, even opposite. But it is some fun indeed.

I got into a simular conversation last night. The general consensus was that you could probably carve out a good niche market in certain area's outside of the Mediterranean and Caribbean, as a profitable business. Those markets have most of the niche area's well carved out. Cover some operating costs but thats about it.

British Columbia has a few fishing camp and small charter operators. A common package is 4 days and 3 nights of fishing. At $2,000 to $3,000 per person. Most accommodations are just above camping to motel 6, nothing above 3 star. The boats used in that price point are small and pretty basic. Just thinking out loud, but in the pacific northwest, an 60 to 80 ft luxury set up Nordhavn or Northern Marine, other nice trawler, either set up for fishing and even carrying a tender or two suitable for it. Could probably be profitable as a more luxurious option for 6 people at that price point!

Actually this has me thinking about it. We also have a fairly large smaller bare boat charter fleet as competition. China and Asia in general probably has a simular niche area that could be an o.k profitable business.
