   If it's a Sealand, it probably has bad duct bills and they need to replaced. Could also be the diaphram.

   A diaphragm failure almost always end up with highly visible and disgusting smell which is pretty hard to miss ...
   
   If he has one of cheap POS jabsco macerator so many builders insist on saving a buck with, chances are it s been run dry and is toast.
