Hi. what is minimum size of ocean cruise?

    I have to agree with those who asked 'Why Chile?'. Not that there's anything wrong with Chile, just why that choice? A second question is why build a yacht from scratch with all the proven designs and yards out there? Also where did the OP get the idea that 2 engineers are all that's needed as his total representation on the project? Engineers in what field? There's a ton more questions I could ask starting with is he looking to build in steel, glass, aluminum or....

    It just seems like this could be the kind of project that runs for 10 years or until the OP's money runs out (whichever comes first). If he does make it through the process will he have recourse if she turns turtle upon launch?

    I think his first conversation needs to be with an N.A. to develop plans, and then search where they can best be brought to life.

    Would make more sense with taiwan or china thats alot closer to south korea.
    Both have probably hundreds of small yards that have the experience to do a good job.

    But if wasting alot of time and money on flights is fun, chile is okey.

    With some of the things mentioned on this and the other thread I get the feeling that this is not SOUTH Korea.

    If this guy is as smart as he says he is he would know that all of the information he is seeking is available on the Web. And by that I don't mean this forum. Another thing....why would he go to Chile when some of the best boat building yards are relatively close to him in Taiwan and China. Info that is also available on the Web.

    Based of snippets in this thread and the other he wants to become a production yacht builder. He thinks that he has figured out some automation step. Unfortunately I'm not sure what he could plan on automating. The fiberlaying step can now be automated, for the past 20 years or so, it's just much more expensive to build and maintain the robot arms capable of moving heavy loads of fiber over the long span of the boat than it is to hire some meat bag to do the same task at $50 an hour. The resin application too is 'automatable' through vacuum bagging, but more expensive that way than $50/hr meat bags using rollers. Then you get to fitting the yacht out. That is an application that is the opposite of automatable. You've got a whole lot of work to be done with irregular and variable sized pieces of dissimilar materials in awkward and difficult places. You can CNC shape the work pieces before you load them into the boat, but that's not a new process, every modern production boat yard in the world does that to an extent, and there is still a lot of work after that point. If you did have some genius idea it really seems like a 15'-25' boat would be the way to start into boat building.

    Personally I would go to Taiwan for your request... probably best balance of price/capacity/distance...

    You may be underestimating the complexity of the project (or not), but I will not try to judge that from your words... I know some here have said you are arrogant or whatever, but it is probably something of the language barrier as english is clearly not your first language (although you do communicate very fluidly imo!)

    Nonetheless, what sort of timeframe and budget are you talking about? Perhaps if you intend on "smashing" a few boats, it would be ideal to purchase a smaller boat so you familiarize yourself with navigation, etc, while working on your ideal boat plans (this phase can take anything from oh 2 - 10 yrs?)

    Once you are on a boat (and I presume you have limited experience living on a boat), you will surely see what things you want the most, etc, and be able to best design/tilt the designers of your future boat. Meanwhile, scale testing, etc, of your production methods may be a good way to get started without too much spending?

    I think you can build it in most any country (although personally keeping it close is a good suggestion! - and I have built a yacht half way around the world... its not really fun having 30hr journey to go visit the yacht... repeating this 10 or more times, having to displace an engineer onsight half way around the world, etc... DOABLE, but if avoidable, why not?)

    I have a degree in software engineering, and am completing one in naval architecture. One does not transfer to the other.

    Of course you're capable of learning about shipbuilding, but it will take years of study to gain any useful ability.

    Others may or may not have been rude (I didn't check), but you have definitely also been extremely rude yourself.

    Personally I suspect the OP is a troll having some fun.
