As of yesterday noon, Octopus is moored at the Lloyd Yard (Lürssen) at Bremerhaven for a longer refit. She needs it, she has several external damages and a lot of visible wear and tear.

Thanks for the update. I have seen her couple months ago in Bodrum, and got to get upclose didn’t look that bad to me, however with her previous owner she was spotless and like new always. What external damages are there, could you elaborate? Thank you.

I was onboard Octopus, when she was moored at Malaga recently and I had the opportunity to have a close look at her from the inside and outside. The faired blue hull had suffered remarkably with scratches and paint failures. The external wood maintenance was definately below the typical Octopus standard, one could see signs of corrosion and the interior was also well below the standard, I had seen during my last visit.

Some of the internal changes that were implied by the new ownership looked like IKEA standard and quality. Especially the upper salon (the former recording studio) looked looked like being equipped with stuff from an drive in furniture store.

I could continue for pages but that would exceed the frame of this thread. My overall impression was, Octopus was driven on wear and tear. But that is what I was expecting from this new owner.

    Just my 2 (Euro) Cents

I have a feeling that's what will happen to Carinthia VII too. I hope not, but...I would put my 2 cents, in this case.

A brand new topcoat and (optionally ) an additional clearcoat will definetely assist in bringing back the gloss/glory on this masterpiece. However just by the look of it, before the primers and gloss paints are applied, some corrective fairing( long boarding+skim fairing) would be really a big plus to minimize the effect of years and surface imperfection on the blue surfaces .Obviously time and budget allowed!

I was going to post this yesterday but it was originally loaded only at 360p which isn't acceptable. Clearly they reuploaded it since then.
