Yes, there are after cooled versions of DD marine power. Again, my comment was specific to 8V71TA marine application which I have never seen.
Its only half a 16V, these engines are so old now anyone could have done just about anything to them by now and come up with some real hybrids.
I did learn something. I was incorrect about TTA, There is such a thing. Still trying to figure it out, at first looks like a fuel economy or endurance model. Still nothing you would see in a boat,,,,, I think.
I remember the term Fuel Squeezer but never saw one in a truck or anywhere else. I wonder when that PDF was produced. A 100,000 mile oil change interval. Do any diesel engine manufacturers promise that today?
RER I'm sure I have seen 8V71TAs in boats. Just can not get my brain cells in sync to offer exact examples. It has been a while. I do remember, when they leaked, it was catastrophic. Maybe that's why not many (any) are left around. I have always been a fan of the theory. That last cooling of the air just before getting pushed into the cylinders.
52' Hatteras SF had some 8v92 TA's in them. 62' MY also. 53' Oceans had some mostly early mid 90's boats. 46' Bertrams had them. 61' Tollycrafts. This 59' Baia arneson boat I manage has them at 760HP (I think TAB ddecs), but most TA's were 735hp. Most modern diesels are aftercooled and if they leak it's catastrophic, but generally no issues.
