I couldn’t agree more. Shocked at what the OP said to the guru of yachts! I am always amazed at how much Capt J knows. Maybe even more shocked at how willing he is to share his knowledge. Even with people who are rude and don’t appreciate it.

Pascal, I knew you would have some numbers tuck away in that file. Yep, just splitting hairs. The only time we have ran on one engine was also because of mechanical problems. Running at 8 kts does build hours on engines, gears, and generator per mile, when you add the scheduled maintenance the cost per mile is not so good.

I know this is an old reply which I had missed back then

Keep in mind that maintenance intervals on diesels are hours OR a fuel burned. So yes while running at hull speed means more hours on the meters, fuel burn along with wear and tear is actually much lower overall.
