I used the fiberfix on our generator heat exchanger rubber end cap and it worked wonderfully.

FYI if you ever need one of those replaced, I found a source on England.

On the last trip I did, these guys used Splash Zone on a couple of bilge pump hard pipes that had holes, it didn't work worth a darn.......It stuck to everything except where the hole was.......

I was very impressed with the product when I saw it on Shark Tank, but we all know that TV and real life are often very different matters. Thank you.

I found that the "Rescue Tape" makes a very good seal, but it punches through under pressure. So it fine for things like drain pipes, but I don't recommend it for things like punctures in air or water hoses.

Now that's the kind of info I was looking for. It may not be for something that works, but it'll keep me from wasting time and money on stuff that doesn't.

BTW, back on the subject of the thread, we're planning to stick in Mackinac Is. today and tomorrow as we have some weather moving in. Very nice place. Most enjoyable stop since we left NY. We plan to cruise down the Michigan coast a bit on Wednesday, then lay the boat up for a week or two as the forecasts are marginal. Being a coastal cruiser I find it fascinating how fast the seas pick up and lay down here on the lakes. On the coast the wind wave may go up and down fast, but the swells remain.

Looks like all the weather for your trip up and around is still pretty mild. We really look forward to the St. Lawrence one day. Well, we most look forward to Montreal as another place we've yet to visit.

Yeah the weather has been and is looking really good overall.

Crossing the lake today it was 6" with a mostly following wind and patchy fog and sun. And some of the leafs are starting to turn.

I guess our dinner was a bit cheaper in Port Dalhousie compared to Mackinac Island. Hope you and Michael enjoyed the island. Have a safe trip.

Just a bit. We had lunch at the Grand Hotel today. OMG what a spread.

Tomorrow we're heading for Charlevoix. After that the weather is supposed to turn. So we'll lay Valhalla up there for a few weeks before making the final push to grand haven. This has been an incredible leg between the gorgeous natural scenery of Collins Inlet, the ultra quiet ports, the near fiasco with fueling at Britt, and this incredible Island; some moderately kicking seas and some boringly calm. Even saw some wildlife tonight finally. A bunch of otters were on the raft across the dock from us. Noisy little critters. One thing was consistent. Met really nice people all along the way.

Marine Traffic lost us since Sarnia, but they finally found us tonight.....about 500 miles south of Lagos, Nigeria. What a worthless site. Got an email the other day saying they want to sell us satellite service. They'd probably have us on Jupiter with that.

    Tomorrow Lake Michigan.

Charlevoix ahead. Entering the inlet about 1330.

    End of this leg.

The AIS uses VHF signal/recievers to show it on their sight, so it depends on the distance from those recievers, weather etc. Basically if you're not within 25-35 miles of shore and where the recievers are they don't pick it up......but it's free, so you get what you pay for........The Satellite service is dead on, but expensive.

Sounds like you had a nice trip....I've never been to Macinaw and always wanted to go.....I have stopped in St. Ignace right across just West from Macinaw.........The good thing is you'll have plenty of time in the Spring to explore all of the Lakes before having to head South.......

We ferried over to St. Ignace the other day for a hardware store (air hose). You missed a special treat when you missed Mackinac Is. Will probably stop back there next summer before we continue south.

Really. I was going to invite you for dinner, but my days of going there are done.

Depending where you go you could have shallows problems. When you find out let me know and maybe I can give you a heads up....also on where to walk and where not.

If you're up by mid-November you should have no problems with getting fuel, etc.

I'm from the school of 'If you don't have the kinks worked out, don't bring it to market', but that's not today's way. Today they start selling as soon as they get the idea. When they lose me for almost the entire Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron, Georgian Bay and then think I'm in Nigeria, I wouldn't even invest in them much less count on them as anything more than a novelty game. They've proven themselves unreliable to me. Why would I consider giving them money?

Ed, the marine traffic site is a free service. They're not selling anything, and I see the site as a bonus. I can see where freighters are enough to calculate when they'll get here for loadings and such without having to pay the fee for the service. They used to show you the satellite positions as well for free, but now need to charge for it to keep the website and service going. I understand that. It directly states that the free part of it is up to the last 48 hours. I can also see where friends are sitting currently on their yachts they work on. The pay part of it is a little pricey but offers pretty accurate information, up until a few hours prior at most.

Thanks for the info. The owner is very knowledgable and knows that marina we're going to. They currently live on a 42' Sailboat at the marina we're going to......thank you for the offer and I might PM you closer to the trip......

It's advertising for their business, and showing us in Nigeria isn't good advertising in my book. Sort of like me telling someone I'll move their boat for free hoping they'll recommend me to a friend, and then only taking their boat half way. I wouldn't consider 'He almost did the job' good advertising. In the future I'll tell people following our travels to watch the bow cam and email me or check YF if they want to know where we are. I won't bother telling them anything about MarineTraffic. That's lost potential business. For my purposes sure, it's worth what I'm paying for the cute novelty. Nothing.
