Tom, are you shooting from a boat on these or tele? Either way, outstanding.

I was shooting from the floating docks by Cheoy Lee and Sunseeker. A little bouncy from wakes and the work crews dismantling the displays. Used my standard lens, no telephoto.
Here's a shot using a telephoto lens (70-300 mm). This way I could stand back about 25 feet and not get my reflection in the bell.

You have a good eye and a steady hand.

It was mostly all Latin American buyers for both sportfish manufacturers. However, it will definately keep the factories busy building boats so that is a good sign.

The eye catches the shots but the hands, eh, not always steady. A beefy tripod does the trick.

    A few from the booths:

There's a lot of ups and downs in that block

    Works of art, propably

    Deere's gone orange

Yachtsign's work adorns yachts like Cakewalk, Pegasus V, Natita II, and many others large and small.

By the time I got to this last booth, I was exhausted

Okay, okay, I leave the colorful commentary to disco.

PS Shout out to Capt Evan. Thanks!

I believe they are draft (draught) marks. globalsecurity.org has a detailed explanation. You have taken some great pictures by the way. Thanks for sharing your experience at the show.

The Nuts and the Bolts of It All

Over the years Show Management has gotten the assembling of the Boat Show down to a work of art and feat of engineering science. They truck in the floating dock sections,
    floats.JPG

drop them into the water with a crane,
    crane.JPG

    and connect them together
    floatdocks.JPG

    with some floating vendor displays
    vendortents.JPG

and a few cocktail barges thrown in for good measure
    cocktail.JPG

to create a floating face dock that stretches from the Bahia Mar Beach Resort and Yachting Center, past the Hall of Fame Marina, under the Las Olas Bridge, to the North end of the Las Olas Marina some 3,800 feet or almost 3/4 of a mile
which is quite the engineering marvel!!!

And in the middle of all of that is a swing bridge 2011-10-28_13-48-49_849.3gp - YouTube that opens to allow boats access to the condo and private docks behind the face dock.

Add several billion of dollars worth of boats, equipment, water toys, and a hundred thousand people and you have one heck of a Boat Show!

    show

...and after this years show if they could only put it all in-doors, now that would be one heck of a show.

Better still place the bathrooms next to the beer barges and ...:D

Actually I saw them (tow boat US) towing very large sections down the Dania Cut Off Canal prior to the show to the show. It was about 8 sections of dock wide, and about 150-200' long (each section). I don't know where they assembled them, or put them in the water, but it was a very large tow for this area.

Beautiful pictures Tom. However, you took pictures of 3 different boats that were either behind or directly in front of one of the boats I was running. LOL.......I ran 4 yachts to the show, and 2 yachts back from the show and none of them made it into your pics........but that's ok.....
