Any one have any insight on what a 1 way pacific crossing accommodations would cost on a modern container ship? Leaving from west coast USA ,also East coast going through the Panama canal (preferred)? I always wanted to take that ride, but only if they allow your to tour (supervised in working areas of course) and give insight to the ships mechanicals. I don't want to be confined to a room ,galley and observation deck totally.

I hope there is an elevator in the accommodation block, I counted 11 levels. That's a long way for the Offices and the Pilot to climb, imagine 22 flights of stairs in a heavy seaway.

Good observation...i would hope so too...it does not have to be only in heavy seas. Normal conditions ..having that many stairs to climb would leave the pilot breathless by the time he reached the bridge!

The link to the ship site said it had accommodations for 30 while only a crew of 13 is required for voyages.I wouldn't mind occupying one of the extra 17 spots, carry approx. 11,000 20 foot containers and 1000 40 foot refer containers.Heck I could set up a nice temporary digs in a 40' X 8' A/C'd container. It would probably smell like fish thou.:D

yes there is an elevator, but most of the container ships they have it, this is not a novelty for Emma Maersk.

well, if you wish you can set the temperature to -72 celcius and by the time you arrive to your destination you will be as fresh as live cargo. at least, your cells will not be effected by the freezing process. in blast freeze containers the cargo can be kept as if it is alive and that is how frozen tuna is carried for sushi consumption.

Reason for the fire aboard Emma Maersk during construction.....
    http://www.containershipping.nl/
When the page loads, go to 'Casulties' in the navigation panel on the left hand side and wait for it to load and then scroll down to Emma Maersk and there is a tid bit why the block caughtfire.

Are you sure Nilo? Then what about those free fall boats that are designed for jack up rigs and oil platforms. Those drop from some astounding heights!
