so I did this and the engine starts on the first crank. issue im having with the other engine now is that I can make full rpm out of gear but ounce the engine is under load im down about 350-400 rpm. I just had the props sent out and redone and changed the turbos out for new ones with no change. suggestions?

Throwing parts at a problem is a lousy way to diagnose an issue a good DD guy will likely solve quickly. Props aren’t going to cause a sudden 400 rpm loss unless they re mangled up.

Start with the basics. Fuel filters (prim and sec), rack etc.

Need to get a good Detroit Diesel guy out. But if the props didn't hit anything, the turbo's looked fine, you either have a bad injector or dead cylinder to lose 350-400 rpms usually.

If you had a dead cyl or injector, taking exhaust manifold temp with an IR thermometer will show you which one is not firing at 100%

The IR guns are cheap at Harbor Freight, about $20 and are a good tool to have on-board for trouble shooting.

He said he had his props redone...did they change the pitch on them?

Scratch my thought...if you went the other way, that would have caused your issue
