I had my 12th birthday party there and my biggest thrill of the day wasn't the food or any other rubbish. What made my dream come true was a trashy 32' sailboat next to us. It belonged to a writer called Goscinny. A French writer who captivated a 12 year old boy? His books were called Asterix and Obelix, the boat had a small cartoon hand painted on the stern. Very Heaven.
geez... First of all Thank You AMG for actually answering the question at hand. I only reposted (once) because all those multiple huge pics of that big green trawler were reposted and bumped my post over a page. I removed the reference to St. Tropez. It was a tag on the photo when I first downloaded it. The location was not the point, the identity of the boat was. My gawd, some people need to relax... Happy sailing, Wolf
Hi, Yes I would agree. I would also suggest that you take a leaf out of your own book and try that yourself.
Yacht Ident. in St. Barth's I need assistance. This January's Vanity Fair magazine published a picture in their Johnny Depp issue of the harbour of St. Gustavia. I've linked to the picture here under "fair use") Can anyone identify the yacht which is moored stern-to with her davit elevated at the bow??!? The picture is captioned: PORT OF GENTRY (The harbor of Gustavia, St. Barth's capital. The best New Year's Eve parties are on the yachts--such as billionaire Paul Allen's 416-foot Octopus--that moor here.) The story to which the picture belongs is, as it were, "The Storming of St. Barth's".
Looks like one of the sisters that Abeking & Rasmussen built...possibly the former "Ultima III" which is now called "Diamond A".
It cannot be "Zenobia" as she was blue and white last time I checked. "ady Sheridan" is white and grey and has two domes at the very top of the mast. "Diamond A" best fits the description especially after her mini refit. "Elandess" is out for sure as that is with a Blue hull and her brand new sister as well.
You are right Ron, She is now moored in St. Martin at a pier near Cole Bay, the airport, not far where she was recently. See MT to compare pics. The pics are old like Ultima III, but you will see the 6 windows 3-3 in front as the same...
Just to say this picture is the exactly same with same yachts of the Homepage of Abeking&Rasmussen, but in this case has a Cruise Ship & some other boats behind, but she is still there see: http://abeking.com/ Yachts could be Ultima III with Hull of Trident, but different superstructure aft ontop, but I really don't know if another has in same series. Just curiosity !
It's probably her. Or maybe it was the Revson Ultima. For a moment I wasn't sure that the radius on her Windows, the radius of the corner arc was right or no. Whether the sweep of the arc at the corner (like the sweep of the corner arc of an iPhone case) was a match or not. There is no date on the photograph and I can't at all make out her flagging. Any word on how Ultima III and Diamond A have been flagged over time? Pre-sale and ex-post facto? Thanks, again.
