Does anybody know what kind of propulsion M/Y ECLIPSE has? Is it powered by diesel engines (CODAD) only or it has combined propulsion system of diesel engines and gas turbines (CODaG or CODoG)?
    Best regards to everyone

  3. She is exactly under a very small river trail near Dock 4. Some 0.7Kts turning around like a cowboy on an electronic horse...

This will probably mark the end of interest by TKMS in yacht building

You can't be serious can you Joe?
(or I don't have the sarcasm font type installed and I've missed your message entirely)

I read the article as nothing more than typical shake down issues, blown out of proportion as the media would promise to do, for a boat and owner of this stature.

I agree PB but you have to also look at the reality that she over 6 months behind her delivery date. This would not speak as well as it should for TKMS/B&V...

Yes, of course, and we an general public have very little first hand information on the issues, they delays, reasons, magnitude, etc. However what the media feeds the pubic may be partially correct, or to some greater or lesser degree exaggerated.

And credit where credit is due, there are those much much closer to the industry (such as K1W1) with better information and a better understanding of the details.

I just didn't gather that the issues Eclipse is under is jeopardizing Blohm & Voss as a builder. (as for example ex. Boardwalk (now Fighting Irish) did with Westship, wherein that boat, pretty much put them out of business.)

    Hi,

B & V have yet to make a profit on a yacht build.

They have lost large amounts on the most recent deliveries, their losses on the as yet undelivered ones are unknown but in some cases will be a lot of what the original contract numbers were.

TKMS is or was part of a huge Industrial Organization, they had to accept continued responsibility for the ongoing contracts at time of sale and it is biting them bigstyle.

They seemed to have added some curved pipes onto the vertical exhaust uptakes of "Eclipse". Probably the mast was getting sooted too often.
  12. She just passed going river down for Sea Trial ... Not in D17 anymore!
  13. The thing is back today morning, now in Dock 11. Well she maybe was the first and unique yacht making proves of all docks she could enter in B+V, 10, 11, 17. Only in 4 and 5 she is too big for fitting inside. I am sure they lost much money with all those operations already. Anyone knows about MYLIN IV? She is supposed to be free now. In AIS says that today she would be going to Boston, but then i think they will make Sea Trials with her first. Never more heard. As it is again Winter times here, does not justify an effort to go seeing those movements there.

A very recent press release from Blue Ocean Yacht Management, who manages all the Abramovich yachts, mentions a yacht called Umbra, along with Eclipse, Luna, Pelorus and Susurro (Ecstasea and Le Grand Bleu where sold time ago). Does someone know anything about this unknown yacht?

Genny's may be on a closed loop cooling system as well.

Well the gensets will need cooling and most yacht gensets use seawater to cool them. Thus with the vessel out of the water, the normal seawater supply is no longer available. I am guessing that they are pumping the cooling water in from the harbor. In hindsight, I suppose that there is no shorepower system for a yacht of this size? Or the dock does not have sufficient electrical supply? Just a random observation actually .... :)

It is an interesting observation as I never thought of these things until you brought them up...thanks! I know that engines and gensets need a cooling system, most practical being sea water but I never thought about it when the boat is on the hard.
