Welcome aboard skipper...The design of "A" has been a contentious debate. Some still can't get ahold of the design while some like myself love it very badly. To each man his own, you can't bash anyone if they like her design or not.:)

I say A is a great yacht and any one who would hate it, I say whatever

    It's a rip-off...

    It's not a submarine, it's a rip-off of a famous building from WW1...

Philippe Starck obviously studied the Mendelsohn "Babelsberg Einsteinturm" before sitting down by the drawing board. If you look at the windows they're identical and the roof over the main deck towards the bow bares a striking resemblance to the main entrance of the observatory.

Mister Starck is no doubt a very skilled designer but let's face it, almost everything has already been done.

Yes, I see your point. There is an uncanny resemblance between the Babelsberg Einsteinturm and Project Sigma.

And I suppose the designer of the Wally 118 was influenced by this...

    Found this interesting

On the Builders Website for Yacht A - there is a PDF file containing all of the information about the yacht, especially the Owners name at the end. I am not posting the link but it shouldn't be too hard to find. What I find odd about this, is that it looks like an Internal Document that got posted to the web. Check it out....

I believe I know what you are talking about. It has been floating around the net before "A" was launched.

i heard she has been to the yard in kiel back again due to some changes and repairs on the machinery, not much more known.
besides: a good friend hired a helicopter to do some shots of her while she was out on the baltic sea, his pilot has been charged by some politics to not fly my friend!
i guess the owner knows the game...

Already back in the yard? That can't be good. As for the pilot/politics: That's stupid. In the yard I could understand for security purposes, but do they plan to cruise her under an umbrella?

    September 2008 sightings

I sighted Project Sigma, or "A" in mid September of 2008 off the coast of Positano, Italy. Also, the third photo was taken a day later on its way to Capri, while on our way back from there to Positano. Note the sailboat in front of it.

It was a remarkable sight in person. I did not know at the time what I was looking at, and reviewed after returning home.

I'm upset that I did not get any night photos when it was parked in front of our villa overnight.

    tdobbin,

Thanks very much for the pics. In the future however, please post them no wider than 640 pixels.

    Cheers

Sorry, Kevin. I just went thru the process and made sure they were less than 100kb. I had to shrink them quite a bit because they are very HD on the originals.....didn't check the megapixels.

    Take care
