    23-25kt cruise would seem reasonable (as long as I'm not paying for it).:D Also, could she be constricted into military service at some future date? Maybe making her less attractive for that is why the owners opted for a 19.5kt cruise.:cool:

    I do not know if this can be applied to create a synthetic diesel fuel but I saw this in the news and I just found a news story about it. Apparently someone has created a process of extracting a replacement for jet fuel and other fuel types using coal. It seems they are working on a process that would reduce or eliminate the carbons causing the problems in the fuel. They said it has not been cost effect but because of the price of fuel going so high it nows makes much more sense to use it.

    i don't know if you know, but coal is at least as bad for the climate as gas/diesel is..

    coal is even worse i think, because you have to carry a lot more for the same amount that fuel does...

    but for real: i think it's time for the first oxygen powered yacht...

    Yes I am familiar with the problems with coal as far as CO2 goes I have seen research being done with Dominion a large electrical provider in the US. Near Quincy MA they are building a new manufacturing faculty that will process coal-to-liquid (C-T-L) while removing the offending pollutants from the coal.

    An MIT group is being very tight lip about their work but I have heard anything from bacteria to using some type of reaction to reduce the amount of pollutants in the fuels. One of the people backing the work is a Nobel Prize winning environmentalist.

    This is an article that takes about the problems with coal but I am still looking for any information about the work being done in Quincy. It was big news last year but still looking.

    But far bigger news that is a first and could lead to large scale production if the next President shows some interest is gas from carbon dioxide. That is right from carbon dioxide nether of these technologies are far off crazy ideas they both are being done today in very small scale but the US Gov. has to step up and put large scale efforts in to begin the financing of these important technologies and this will put an end of sky rocketing prices of oil.

    I do not wish to be rude, but what has synthetic fuel got do with the B-V Sigma? I can't see the relation, maybe I missed something.

    Should we be asking about that El Capitan? Unless you worked with the interior while in build I am not sure that we will know. Unless for some miracle she features on the ISS.

    The owners know the curiosity this vessel has generated and have been graciously and surprisingly open with details about it. Also, secrets of this magnitude are hard to keep. Plus it seems the next logical direction of this thread.

    Earlier in the thread there was a discussion about the cost of refueling the Sigma. To fill it's tank was something around one million dollars. I was pointing out that with the use of alternative fuels this will help drive the costs down to refuel such huge Yachts such as Sigma lets face it even billionaires like to save money from time to time:)

    I agree, I like the smooth soft look except for the spaghetti on top. :rolleyes: Plus there will be very few yachts its size, or even half its size, that will stay with it in rough seas.

    Thanx for sharing these photos!
    Her design is not my favorite style but sometimes I love to see
    something different.
    Altough it's not my favorite style i think Mr. Starck, and off course
    the people at Blohm & Voss, has create a nice piece of art.

    i have seen this boat and flew over it and at first look it has no deck space only a helipad at the bow of the yacht???????

    There is deck space on "A". To the aft of the heli-pad there is space around the long pool there and more space under the protruding hard-top. Then the stern has quite some space all around the large circular pool. Then under the radar mast hardtop there is relaxation space up there too. "A" is probably not teaked everywhere like on say "Rising Sun" external decks but remember "A" isn't exactly 60-meters long so the 'little' space you see is quantified.
