as much as all teh speculation about the missing transom can be very entertaining to read, it really doens't matter since we dont' know what happened to the boat while on the bottom. Nobody really knows what happens on the bottom during a storm. Remember that old ship that was sunk as a reef off Key Largo? what's the name... Speigel Grove or something? she sunk the wrong way then a few weeks or month later she was straitghtened up by currents resulting from a storm.

so the transom and most of the damage is irrelevant. The big question is why did the boat sink and the only thing that everybody agrees on is that something happens at the bow, either a collision (Bertram's claim) or a massive failure.

wild theories about a tow cable, a bomb, explosive decompression, the captain backing down hard to keep water out, the loch ness monster, a boat dragging anchor or the boat hitting a massive crapberg of BS drifting all the way from Washington DC are nothing more than entertaining speculation.

spare me on your entertainment comment..

    I deal with raw facts...

stick to the subject at hand

where is the transom, and how did it seperate like that so cleanly? it may/may not have anything to do with the deck lift, but it's a mystery thats part of the puzzle.. this is unprecedented, the current didn't CLEANLY rip off the transom..

Well, the weakest part of any lay-up is where you have 90 degree bends. Sharp edges break a lot easier then soft bends. It's also where you have two different directions of forces meeting each other........the deck flexing up and down, and the transom flexing fore and aft such as backing down.........

Personally I don't think the boat hit anything except possibly a wave, there is nothing under the waterline to indicate that.

The 57' Bertram I ran did exactly the same thing as this one (without the catastrophic results). The bulkhead to stringer tabbing broke free.......everywhere......cleanly, no tearing. What made me look at everything very carefully was above the door to the day head, the joinery cracked from doorway to ceiling. Bertram explained that it had too much hardener in it, cured too quickly, therefore causing it to be brittle.

You know......where the transom broke would be about the area where your rear rod holders would be mounted and a 2"-3" hole in the top of the gunnel would weaken that area........

Then let me share a few facts with you newbie. Pascal is one of our most respected members. He's probably run more boats than you've seen in a glossy magazine. He doesn't post for entertainment.

You have a whopping 5 posts? And we're suppose to bow out your knees with raw facts? Spare me! Unless you have something of value to add to this discussion, seriously relevant insight... then spare us your arrogant attitude and stay on the side lines.

There's no need to personally attack the guy. From Buizilla's post, it sounds like he is saying, he has physically seen (with his eyes) more on this situation, then you know about it.......that is what I read from it..... He also mentions he has contacts on the assembly line.......so it sounds like he has been there a few times...... I don't know him in any: way, shape, or form.......but this is what I read from it,

No, Shazam has not been banned, however I know his identity and sent a PM explaining forums can be a double-edged sword; best to tread lightly.

I hear you Capt J. I viewed what he wrote as an attack on Carl & I took it personally.

Carl, if you could be so kind as to remove my post as well as this where it's quoted.
    Thank ya sir!

Our rules our clearly posted, repeated several times during the registration process. This forum, unlike others mediums, will not be manipulated. I have no quorums with exposing the same. Shazam is an independent boat builder. It's NOT in his best interest to post here, no matter how right he might be, it's simply not appropriate business conduct.

Let's return to the topic now...

I may be reading between the lines but I'm sensing a thinly vieled threat. Your sign in page contains the following statement:

"YachtForums DOES NOT share information or e-mail addresses with outside sources!"

With your last post there is a shadow of doubt cast over this statement.

Were there any May Day calls broadcast, before the boat sunk? Any calls to the Coast Guard?
